KXTG Portland Cuts Two Local Dayparts; Readds Jim Rome

Alpha Media Sports “750/102.9 The Game” KXTG Portland/K275CH Gresham OR has cut its local afternoon show hosted by Justin Myers and DeVon Pouncey. Myers and Pouncey were first teamed at KXTG in June when they were paired for the 9am-12pm show. Myers had previously co-hosted afternoons with Noah ‘Chop’ Homsley from February through June until the brief tenure of Dino Costa in that daypart. Homsley, who serves as Assistant Program Director at KXTG, had been filling in again in afternoons until this week. The station is now going with CBS Sports Radio programming in both dayparts. Dino Costa’s tenure at Alpha Media Sports “750/102.9 The Game” KXTG Portland lasted longer than his run at KFNS St. Louis last year. Alpha cut ties with the afternoon host at KXTG after just two months with the station due to multiple offensive comments that drew the ire of MLS’ Portland Timbers and the University of Oregon Ducks, both of whose games air on the station. A transcript of comments made in June leaked on Monday in which he suggested that Black Lives Matter protesters should be run over with cars. After debuting Dino Costa as its new afternoon show, Alpha Media Sports “102.9/750 The Game” KXTG Portland/K275CH Gresham OR is launching a new 9am-12pm show. Hosted by former afternoon co-host Justin Myers and former Pacific University basketball player DeVon Pouncey, the new show replaces a delayed simulcast of Brock Huard and Mike Salk from Bonneville’s “710 ESPN” KIRO Seattle. The addition expands KXTG’s local output to 10 hours daily, with Portland based programming airing from 9am to 7pm weekdays. Costa most recently spent a brief six week tenure at 590 KFNS St. Louis in early 2016. He is best known for his five year run on SiriusXM’s Mad Dog Radio and has also worked in Denver and Jacksonville. Alpha Media Sports “750 The Game” KXTG Portland/102.9 K275CH Gresham OR has added a new afternoon show. “The Irregular Guys”, hosted by Justin Myers and Noah ‘Chop’ Homsley will air weekdays from 3-7pm. Myers previously co-hosted middays at Bonneville Sports “710 ESPN” KIRO Seattle until exiting in June 2016. Chop, who doubles as KXTG Assistant Program Director, had been hosting in that timeslot with Fletcher Johnson since December 2015. The Brock & Salk morning show based at Bonneville Sports “710 ESPN” KIRO Seattle will be heard in Portland starting Monday, January 2. Brock Huard and Mike Salk’s show will join Alpha Media Sports “750/102.9 The Game” KXTG Portland/K275CH Gresham OR on a two hour delay from 9am-12pm. They will replace CBS Sports Radio’s Jim Rome in the timeslot. Former NFL QB Huard and Salk were first paired in afternoons at KIRO in 2009 when the station flipped to Sports. Salk left in 2013 for WEEI Boston but when he returned to KIRO the following year as PD/Morning host, Huard moved to mornings join rejoin him. Alpha and L&L To Merge; Acquire Main Line Broadcasting

Larry Wilson is merging his two operating companies into one and acquiring another. Alpha Broadcasting and L&L Broadcasting will merge to become Alpha Media, while purchasing Main Line Broadcasting’s 19 stations in four markets for $57 million. Both Alpha and L&L were founded by Larry Wilson sharing the same management teams with L&L already operating Alpha’s stations. Following the completion of the two transactions the company will operate 68 radio stations in 12 markets. L&L’s deal to acquire Main Line was first reported in February by Tom Taylor Now. Entercom’s “SportsRadio 95.7” KBWF San Francisco has begun to add permanent on-air hosts to its lineup, with August 1 set as relaunch day. San Francisco 49ers analyst Eric Davis will join the station for 2-6pm. Davis, who also played for the 49ers and three other NFL teams will remain on 49ers radio broadcasts. Davis will be joined by Brandon Tierney, formerly of “ESPN New York” 1050 WEPN. John Lund has left his 12-3pm slot at Portland’s “750 The Game” KXTG for the 10am to 2pm slot on KBWF. Update 5/25: The Alpha shuffle is complete. News/Talk KXL is now exclusively on 101.1, Sports “The Game” is on 750, and 95.5 has debuted its new format as “Live 95.5” with the prerequisite 10,000 songs in row commercial free. Alpha is describing the station as Next Generation AC targetting women 27-38. Keola, currently APD/MD and afternoon host at sister Country 98.7 KUPL has been named Program Director of the new station.
