Dan Le Batard Moves To Middays At ESPN Radio

Following the departure of Colin Cowherd to Fox Sports, ESPN Radio is moving the Dan Le Batard Show from afternoons to the vacant 10am-1pm slot starting Tuesday, September 8. Le Batard and co-host on “Stugotz” Weiner will continue to do a one hour local show for Entercom’s “790 The Ticket” WAXY, but that will move to the 9:00 hour. Television simulcast of the show will be live on ESPNU and then replayed at 1:00pm on Fusion, which had been carrying the afternoon show live. No replacement for the 4-7pm show has been named yet. Entercom Acquires Lincoln Financial Media

The Entercom/Lincoln Financial Media deal has been filed with the FCC. To comply with market cap limits in Denver, Sports “104.3 The Fan” KKFN Longmont will be placed in the Pikes Peak Trust run by Elliot Evers for divestiture to a third party. The remainder of the Lincoln Financial Media stations will begin to be operated by Entercom via Time Brokerage Agreement on January 15 or two days after DOJ approval of the deal, whichever is the latter of the two. During the TBA and until the actual sales close, Entercom agrees to not change any formats on the to-be-acquired stations. Examining The Entercom Lincoln Financial Deal

This morning Entercom shocked the industry with their acquisition of Lincoln Financial Media for $105 million. Entercom acquired fifteen stations and a translator for less money than Steel City Media paid for Wilks four station in Kansas City earlier this year, a smaller market than any of the Lincoln stations. To show how much station prices have dropped, the price is nearly equal to the amount Greater Media paid for Lincoln’s three stations in Charlotte, NC in 2008. The Miami Herald reports that a staff shakeup is taking place at Lincoln Financial Media Sports “790/104.3 The Ticket” WAXY South Miami/WAXY-FM Miramar, FL. Herald Sports Media columnist Barry Jackson reports that Ticket morning co-host Marc Hochman will depart the station when his contract expires at the end of the year, while telling friends he’s heading to afternoons at Beasley’s 560 WQAM. The Miami Marlins will move their game broadcasts in 2014 to Clear Channel’s “940 The Sports Animal” WINZ. The deal ends a five-year relationship with Lincoln Financial Media’s “790/104.3 The Ticket” WAXY/WAXY-FM. All Marlins game broadcasts and ancillary programming will shift to WINZ starting with a weekly offseason program. The Miami Herald adds that Dave Van Horne and Glenn Geffner, the team’s play-by-play announcers will remain in that role on WINZ. WAXY-FM Completes Miami Move-In

Lincoln Financial Media has completed the move-in of Sports “104.3 The Ticket” WAXY-FM West Palm Beach into the Miami market. Now licensed to Miramar, the station is now in a 100% simulcast of 790 WAXY as previously it had to break away at times due to contractual conflicts with Good Karma Broadcasting’s “ESPN 760/106.3” WEFL in the West Palm Beach market. The station can now air ESPN Radio’s Colin Cowherd and Miami Heat games on the FM in addition to the FM. WAXY-FM is now operating with 100kW at 283 meters giving it full market coverage of the Miami/Fort Lauderdale market. Lincoln Financial Media purchased the FM from CBS in August 2012 for $13 Million after CBS sold the remainder of its West Palm Beach cluster to Palm Beach Broadcasting.

Additionally, ESPN Radio’s Colin Cowherd will only air on 790 while Eric Reed and Brandon Guzio will host a local show on 104.3. The station has also announced that former Miami Dolphin Jason Taylor will join the station every Monday at 4pm during the football season.
