KGO Sets New Lineup As Ronn Owens Moves To Commentator Role

After hosting a daily talk show at Cumulus News/Talk 810 KGO San Francisco since 1975, Ronn Owens announced on Friday that he will move to a commentator role effective immediately. Owens will host a daily commentary segment airing from 12:50 to 1:00pm starting on Tuesday, January 16 that the San Francisco Chronicle quotes Owens as stating, “My goal is to be a 2018 version of Paul Harvey and Andy Rooney.” The move comes as Owens previous contract with Cumulus Media expired at the end of 2017 and the new deal allows the company to save money. Cumulus previously attempted to move Owens over to afternoons at sister Conservative Talk 560 KSFO in April 2016, but either listener demand or a loophole in Owens’ contract depending on which story you believe kept him at KGO but losing the...[Read More]

Where Do They KGO From Here?

Following last week’s massive cuts at Cumulus News/Talk 810 KGO and AAA 104.5 KFOG, I was willing to give the company the benefit of the doubt pending the reveal of the new lineup. After seeing what Cumulus has come up with for KGO, it is very easy to see what this is. A way to cut costs and let the station continue on the path to irrelevance. KGO was the longtime powerhouse in the Bay Area holding the top spot in the Arbitron ratings for 27 years straight until 2010. While many pundits will quickly point to owners Citadel and later Cumulus Media as the cause of the demise of KGO, the chips in the armor could begin to be seen as Talk Radio aged in the later days of ABC’s ownership of the station as the station dominated with audiences out of the sellable demographics. The true ...[Read More]

Chip Franklin shifts from 12-3pm to afternoons from 4-7pm, while DreX remains in place from 7pm-10pm. What happened with Owens’ move to KSFO? While KGO is spinning it as listener outcry led to them rev...[Read More]
