Update 8/21: As first rumored the day Jason Wolfe was let go, Kevin Graham of Cumulus’ 1320 KFNZ Salt Lake City has been hired as Brand Manager of WEEI. Graham, who has worked at many Sports stations across the country including WEPN New York, KTAR Phoenix, WBNS Columbus, and WXYT Detroit, will oversee all content on WEEI, its regional network, the Boston Red Sox radio network, and WEEI.com. He will however, have one less asset to work with as Entercom will not renew their contract with the Boston Celtics to remain as the flagship station for the team’s broadcasts. Update 10/4: 850 has begun stunting with a loop directing listeners to 93.7 in preparation of flipping to ESPN Radio at 6am on Friday. Update 9/18: WEEI has officially announced that 850 WEEI and 93.7 WEEI-FM will break their simulcast on Friday, October 5. 850 will carry the ESPN national programming feed billed as “ESPN on WEEI“. Part of the arrangement will see WEEI’s local programming carries on ESPNBoston.com while ESPN will power the video on WEEI.com. Update 7:00pm: As we were compiling our report based on the call sign applications, The Boston Globe goes one step further verifying that WEEI will begin simulcasting on 93.7 this Monday, September 12 displacing “Mike-FM“. Original Report 6:55pm: Entercom Sports 850 WEEI Boston will make its move to the FM band in Boston proper. The station has scheduled a “Special Announcement” for the 8:00am hour on Thursday morning. At that time all signs point to the station announcing its move to the FM band. Entercom has begun the process by applying for some call sign changes for a pair of its owned affiliate stations. 103.7 WEEI-FM Westerly, RI has applied to take the WVEI-FM calls from 105.5 in Springfield, MA. Qantum Communications has announced that CHR “96.3 The Rose” WRZE Dennis, MA will join Entercom’s WEEI Sports Radio Network on April 1 as WEII. All remaining staff will be reassigned throughout the cluster. Qantum also owns News/Talk 95.1 WXTK, Classic Hits “Cool 102” WCIB, and AC 106.1 WCOD.
