Cumulus Media has ended its LMA of Universal Media Access’ 92.3 KSJO San Jose CA. Universal Media Access has flipped the station to Indian music as “Bolly 92.3”. They had registered Bolly923FM.com anonymously in late January and the site is now live promoting it as “The Bay Area’s Bollywood Station”. Cumulus began operating the station in May 2014 as Country “Nash-FM 92.3“, attempting to fill the lack of a Country station in the San Francisco market. The station registered a mere 0.9 share in the January 2016 Nielsen Audio ratings for San Francisco and a 1.5 share in San Jose where it competed with Empire Broadcasting’s 95.3 KRTY. Prior to leasing KSJO to Cumulus, Universal Media Access operated KSJO as Brokered “U92.3“.
Cumulus Media has transferred Mac Daniels to Dallas to program Country duo 96.3 KSCS and “99.5 The Wolf” KPLX. Daniels fills the void created by J.R. Schumann’s departure for SiriusXM in December. He had been programming Cumulus’ “92.3 Nash-FM” KSJO San Jose. Daniels has previously programmed WMZQ Washington, WYCD Detroit, KSKS Fresno and KASE/KVET Austin. Cumulus San Franciso has lost a Market Manager and gained a Program Director. Steve Sklenar, who had joined Cumulus as Market Manager last year from his former position as Director of Sales at Lincoln Financial Media San Diego has departed. No replacement has been named yet. Meanwhile at recently acquired “Nash-FM 92.3” KSJO San Jose, Mac Daniels joins as Program Director for the newly launched Country station. Update 5/26: KSJO flipped to Country “92.3 Nash-FM” at 9:23am Monday. KSJO is launching the new format with 10,000 songs in a row commercial-free. At the end of the commercial free programming, KSJO will begin to rollout the national Nash programming including “America’s Morning Show”, “Nash Nights Live”, and “Kicking It With Kix Brooks”. Following the end of “U92.3” programming at 9pm last night, KSJO began stunting with Country artists boarding a train from Nashville interspersed with instrumental Nash-FM jingles. A pair of reports indicate that Universal Media Access has given 30 days notice to the brokered programming the company currently airs on “U92.3” KSJO San Jose. NewsForChinese.com reports that all program providers on the station were e-mailed a 30 day termination notice on April 28, while Rich Lieberman adds that station has been sold to an unknown bidder. KSJO currently airs programming in Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Russian, Korean, Japanese, Greek languages along with Alternative Rock programming.
