Alpha Media has appointed Bo Matthews as Operations Manager of its Dayton cluster and Content Director of Variety Hits “92.9 Jack-FM” WGTZ Eaton and Classic Country “101.5 Hank-FM” WCLI Enon OH. Matthews most recently served as Senior VP/Programming for iHeartMedia Cincinnati and Program Director of Rock 102.7 WEBN and CHR “Kiss 107.1” WKFS. He also programmed for the company in Cleveland, Fort Myers, Jacksonville and Youngstown. Alpha Media has flipped AC “Soft Rock 92.9” WGTZ Eaton/Dayton OH to Variety Hits “92.9 Jack-FM“. This is a return to the format for WGTZ as the station was Variety Hits as “Fly 92.9” from November 2007 until its flip to AC in February 2015. WGTZ registered a 2.7 share in the Spring 2017 Nielsen Audio ratings. The move follows Alpha’s similar flip in Louisville yesterday and pits WGTZ up against Aloha Station Trust Classic Hits “Big 106.5” WRZX. WGTZ Flys To Soft Rock

Alpha Media Variety Hits “Fly 92.9” WGTZ Eaton/Dayton, OH has flipped to AC “Soft Rock 92.9“. The Dayton market has been without an AC station since then Clear Channel flipped 94.5 WLQT to Country in July 2013. Taking a “More Music, Less Talk” direction, WGTZ is promising that many artists from the previous format will remain on the station. WGTZ was ninth in the Dayton market with a 3.1 share in the Fall 2014 Nielsen Audio ratings. Alpha Media rebrands WGTZ-FM from “Fly 92.9” to “Soft Rock 92.9.” The former Adult Hits outlet will continue to play many artists from Fly 92.9’s library, from the 70’s and 80’s through today. Alpha and L&L To Merge; Acquire Main Line Broadcasting

Larry Wilson is merging his two operating companies into one and acquiring another. Alpha Broadcasting and L&L Broadcasting will merge to become Alpha Media, while purchasing Main Line Broadcasting’s 19 stations in four markets for $57 million. Both Alpha and L&L were founded by Larry Wilson sharing the same management teams with L&L already operating Alpha’s stations. Following the completion of the two transactions the company will operate 68 radio stations in 12 markets. L&L’s deal to acquire Main Line was first reported in February by Tom Taylor Now. Update 11/2 2:00pm: As expected, WGTZ flipped to Variety Hits as “Fly 92.9” at noon today launching with Steve Miller Band’s “Fly Like An Eagle” and Sugar Ray’s “Fly”. Main Line Broadcasting, which recently acquired its Dayton cluster from Radio-One has announced that CHR “Z93” 92.9 WGTZ will change formats Friday 11/2 at Noon. The station, known for its legendary “WGTZ Eaton Dayton Alive” top of the hour ID. Morning team Mallory and Campy, along with APD/MD/Middayer Frey have exited the station, while PD Scott Sharp takes on those duties at sister Urban WDHT “Hot 102.9” replacing Reggie Beas.
