People Moves 5/22: R-Dub Rises To Supreme Commander At Local Media San Diego

Local Media San Diego has agreed to a contract extension with CHR “Z90.3” XHTZ and Rhythmic AC “Magic 92.5” XHRM Tijuana/San Diego Program Director Randy “R Dub” Williams. Williams has served as Program Director of the two stations since 2011 after previously programming “Hot 92.3” KHHT Los Angeles. With the new deal his title will be changed to Supreme Commander. Local Media San Diego announces that the company has re-signed XHTZ & XHRM Program Director and Afternoon Personality R Dub! to a new, multi-year deal. R Dub! joined the stations in April of 2011. Jim Roberts is exiting his position as General Manager of Mid-West Family Broadcasting’s South Bend IN cluster after 22 years with the company and 7 as GM. Roberts will be joining Futuri Media as a National Account Manager. Mid-West Family Broadcasting South Bend General Manager Jim Roberts has accepted the position of National Account Manager at Futuri Media. Jim has been with the South Bend stations, including WNSN-FM, WZOC-FM, WQLQ-FM and WSBT-AM and FM translator on 96.1, since 1996. Jimmy deCastro To Head Entercom Chicago

Former Evergreen Media & AMFM Inc. CEO Jimmy deCastro has been appointed as Senior Vice President/Market Manager of Entercom Chicago upon closing of the acquisition of CBS Radio by Entercom. DeCastro first came to Chicago in 1981 to be GM of 97.9 WLUP. He would later purchase the station as part of Evergreen Media, which would later merge with Chancellor Broadcasting to form AMFM. While President of AMFM, the company was bought and merged into Clear Channel in 2000. He has since served as President of AOL Interactive and in 2007 founded The Content Factory, which launched the Dan Patrick Show into syndication before being sold to DirecTV, and then as President/GM of Tribune’s 720 WGN Chicago from 2013-2016. John Farneda Makes WXRT Return Official

After returning to CBS AAA 93.1 WXRT Chicago on an interim basis in April, John Farneda is staying in the Music Director position permanently. Farneda previously worked for the station from 1983 until 2014 and held the APD/MD role at 2001 until his exit to focus on renovating his historic Frank Lloyd Wright landmark home. CBS RADIO Chicago has appointed John Farneda to the position of Music Director for WXRT-FM. Farneda has been working in this capacity on an interim basis since early April. This marks a return to the station for Farneda who previously held the MD position at XRT for more than 13 years from 2001-2014. Greg Solk Named WJMK/WXRT Program Director

CBS Radio has hired Greg Solk as Operations Manager and Program Director of AAA 93.1 WXRT and Classic Hits “104.3 K-Hits” WJMK Chicago. Solk most recently was Senior VP of Programming for Hubbard Radio until his exit last March. He had joined Hubbard with its acquisition of multiple markets from Bonneville in 2011. Outside of two years as PD of AAA 104.5 KFOG San Francisco in the early 1990s, Solk’s entire career has been spent in Chicago where he started as an intern at 97.9 WLUP and eventually served as VP/Programming of that station and was was instrumental in launching “97.1 The Drive” WDRV in 2001. CBS Radio Chicago has promoted Todd Cavanah to VP/Programming for their cluster. Cavanah has worked at CHR “B96” 96.3 WBBM-FM since 1990 and has programmed the station since 1993. His new position will add oversight of the cluster’s AAA 93.1 WXRT, Country “US 99.5” WUSN, Classic Hits “104.3 K-Hits” WJMK, Sports “670 The Score” WSCR and News 780 WBBM/105.9 WCFS. Norm Winer Exits WXRT Chicago

Not even two months after being moved from Program Director to Director of Music Initiatives & Special Programming at CBS AAA 93.1 WXRT Chicago, Norm Winer is exiting the station completely. Winer released the following statement directed to the staff of WXRT: I have never attempted anything like this. For me, this is uncharted territory. CBS Makes Pre-Holiday Layoffs In Multiple Markets

Update 12/30: More cuts have come to a few CBS clusters. In Chicago, two veteran air-personalities are out. Robert Feder reports that AAA 93.1 WXRT night host Tom Marker has had his position elimnated after 33 years at the station. At sister Country 99.5 WUSN, midday host Trish Biondo didn’t have her contract renewed after 27 years at the station. At Alternative “Live 105” KITS San Francisco, Steve Masters is out of mornings after just 9 months. And in Washington, Hot AC “94.7 Fresh-FM” WIAD loses middayer Kristie McIntyre.
