After shifting its previous format and call letters to 100.3, Journal Broadcasting has launched “Classic Hits 93.1” WNOX Karns/Knoxville, TN. Debuting at 9am today, the new format is focusing on pop hits from the late 1960’s through early 1980’s. The station fills the musical niche left open by the flip of 95.7 WQJK from Variety Hits to CHR last summer.
Update 5/9: WCYQ began its long expected simulcast on 100.3 WNOX at 9am this morning. Playing up the fact that the 100.3 signal is audible in five states and two time zones, “Q100.3” debuted with Jason Aldean’s “The Only Way I Know”. The WCYQ call letters will soon swap places with WNOX. In addition to the previously registered ClassicHits931.com for eventual use on 93.1, Journal has added ClassicHitsWNOX.com. If the previously requested two week simulcast takes place, 93.1 would be in position to launch its new format just in time for Memorial Day Weekend.
