iHeartMedia rebranded “Rock 93.3” WBWZ New Paltz/Poughkeepsie NY as “Z93” on Monday. The Z93 name was utilized by WBWZ through multiple formats in the 1990s and 2000s deriving from its launch as part of the syndicated Hard Rock “Z-Rock” network in 1992. The station would later flip to All 1970s and AC before flipping to Hot AC “Star 93.3” in 2003 and then to “Rock 93.3” in 2012. WBWZ was down to a 1.0 share in the Spring 2016 Nielsen Audio ratings, while Townsquare Media’s competing Classic Rock 101.5 WPDH led the market with a 6.6 share. No changes to the station’s on-air lineup including WWDC Washington’s Elliot In The Morning accompanied the change.
Update 3/14: WBWZ made the switch from Hot AC to Classic Rock “Rock 93.3” at 4:00 this afternoon. Billed as “The Next Generation of Classic Rock” the station has an 80s base to it which positions it as a slightly younger alternative to Cumulus’ 101.5 WPDH. The first hour of Rock 93.3 consisted of: Elton John – The Bitch Is Back Twisted Sister – I Wanna Rock Aerosmith – Sweet Emotion Def Leppard – Rocket Sammy Hagar – There’s Only One Way To Rock Queen – Another One Bites The Dust Boston – More Than A Feeling Outfield – Your Love Bon Jovi – You Give Love A Bad Name Journey – Lights Billy Squire – In The Dark Bryan Adams – Summer Of ’69 AC/DC – You Shook Me All Night Long W...[Read More]
