After dropping its Active Rock format on Friday, 93.5 WARQ Columbia, SC has flipped to Hot AC “Q93.5“. Billed as “Columbia’s Hit Music”, the new format positions WARQ between Clear Channel CHR 104.7 WNOK and Cumulus AC “B106.7” WTCB. The first half-hour of Q93.5 consisted of: One Direction – Story Of My Life Gwen Stefani – The Sweet Escape American Authors – Best Day Of My Life Ed Sheeran – A Team Imagine Dragons – Demons Kelly Clarkson – Miss Independent Maroon 5 – Moves Like Jagger One Republic – Counting Stars
L&L Broadcasting’s Modern Rock “Rock 93.5” WARQ Columbia, SC is stunting with a loop redirecting listeners to sister “Fox 102.3” WMFX. Concurrently WMFX has shifted to Mainstream Rock billed as “Columbia’s Rock Station”. The loop on WARQ promotes Bon Jovi, Stone Temple Pilots, Lynyrd Skynrd, Ozzy Osbourne, and Van Halen. As mentioned in the RadioInsight Community, WARQ has programmed Rock under various names since September 1992. In the most recent ratings trends both WARQ and WMFX tied with a 2.9 share of the audience respectively. The pending format change at WARQ will be the second in the Columbia market in less than a month following Cumulus’ flip of Classic Hits 98.5 WOMG to Country.

L&L will begin operating the stations immediately via LMA. Once all its current sales close, YMF will be left with just Urban AC 107.5 WBLS and Gospel 1190 WBLS New York.

Earlier this week Tom Taylor reported in his daily Tom Taylor Now newsletter that Larry Wilson’s L&L Broadcasting has signed a letter of intent to acquire YMF’s Columbia, SC and Jackson, MS stations. YMF owns five stations in Columbia and six in Jackson. Those deals would leave YMF with just a pair of stations. Urban AC 107.5 WBLS and Gospel 1190 WLIB New York.
