The translator will rebroadcast Radio Advantage One’s Liberal Talk 1460 WABQ Painesville, which has applied to convert from commercial to non-commercial status. Alpha Media acquires SSR Communication’s 103.5 K278CF Tallulah, LA for $200,000. K278CF holds a CP to relocate to Jackson, MS as W278BW and will be utilized by Alpha to rebroadcast Gospel 1300 WOAD Jackson. Progressive Broadcasting System sells 99.7 W259BJ Warsaw, IN to Federated Media’s Talking Stick Communications for $60,000. W259BJ will rebroadcast News/Talk “1480 News Now” WRSW Warsaw. FCC Applications 2/22: One Less On 87.9

Station Moves One of only two facilities licensed to operate on 87.9 is seeking to move. Mountain View Public Broadcasting’s pending acquisition of 87.9 KSFH Mountain View, CA seeks to move to 100.7 due to “operational challenges faced on this channel, which is outside the normally used FM broadcast band”. The Class D signal intends to operate with 10 watts at -44 meters (Coverage Map). KSFH originally operated on 90.5 and 88.1 prior to moving to 87.9 in 1999. If granted, the move will leave Calvary Chapel of Twin Falls’ K200AA Sun Valley/Reno, NV as the only broadcast facility licensed on 87.9. Cougar Comes To Cleveland Suburbs

93.7 WQGR North Madison, OH has signed-on its signal and has begun stunting with music from John “Cougar” Mellencamp. The new signal, which serves Lake County in the eastern portions of the Cleveland market, is owned by South Shore Broadcasting and will be operated by Media One Group. When it officially launches its new format it will do so as Adult CHR “Cougar 93.7“. Jeremy James and Cat Casey will host mornings on the station. Crains Cleveland Business described the station last month as: “The station will play top 40 music — think Lady Gaga, Bon Jovi and Rihanna — and feature local talk show hosts who will keep the audience up to date on the latest entertainment news and trends.”

With the dawn of the new year, it’s time to bring back our semi-regular look at recent FCC applications for station upgrades and granted Construction Permits. LKCM Radio’s Texas Country “95.9 The Ranch” has completed its upgrade and move closer to the Dallas/Fort Worth market. Previously licensed to Mineral Wells where it operated with 80kW at 329 meters, the station has relicensed to Jacksboro with 100kW at 425 meters. Just northeast of Boston, Westport Communications’ Classic Hits “North Shore 104.9” WBOQ Gloucester, MA has moved slightly to the west increasing the potential amount of listeners over its coverage area.
