WRWM Rebrands As 93.9 The Beat

The announcement at 9:39am came with WRWM making its shift to Classic Hip-Hop complete with a rebranding to “93.9 The Beat“. Original Report 1/25: 93.9 WRWM Fishers/Indianapolis is teasing a change for Monday, January 26 at 9:39am. WRWM flipped to Classic Hip-Hop in December and rose from a 1.7 to 2.8 share with the new format in the Holiday 2014 Nielsen Audio PPM ratings despite having the new format in place for just about a third of the period. The station retained the “I94” branding from its previous Hot AC format, but has been calling itself “Indy’s 93.9” on-air as well. That will likely be changing on Monday as Cumulus has registered 939TheBeat.com for WRWM. Is this just a matter of finally giving the Classic Hip-Hop format a branding better ...[Read More]

WWFT Indianapolis Becomes “Warm 93.9”

Launching with The Police “Every Breathe You Take”, Cumulus’ former FM Talker WWFT has become AC “Warm 93.9” pitted against Emmis’ WYXB “B105.7“. The station has picked up John Tesh for nights. One of the most attractive demographic targets now is women 25 to 54,” said Chris Wheat, market manager for Warm 93.9 and sister stations WFMS-FM (95.5) and WJJK-FM (104.5). “It’s certainly an advertiser-friendly format.” Listen to the launch of Warm 93.9 at the Format Change Archive.

Indianapolis Warming

Cumulus has registered warm939.com, 939warm.com, and many derivatives. Both are currently redirecting to the website of sister WJXY-FM “93.9 The Team” in Myrtle Beach, SC . We find it highly unlikely that Cumulus would use a Domain Protection Service to register a dozen domains for a station in Myrtle Beach when they have a high-profile stunt going on in Indianapolis. Cumulus runs fellow “Warm” AC’s in Cincinnati and York, PA. Those stations, along with WWFT were acquired from Susquehanna Radio.

More Indianapolis Talk Changes

Just a couple weeks after Emmis announced plans to move 1070 WIBC to 93.1 FM, the rest of the market has begun reacting. Cumulus has announced that it will suspend its current talk programming in mid-November to join 93.1 with a Christmas Music format through the holidays. Chris Wheat, Indianapolis Market Manager for Cumulus told the Indianapolis Star: “We haven’t determined what we’re going to do with it yet. The options range from tweaking it to changing it.” “Sean Hannity can’t carry the radio station,” Wheat said. “One of the glaring things I noticed when I arrived is that there’s absolutely no local content from a news and information standpoint.” WWFT previously was Contemporary Christian WISG “93.9 The Song”.
