93.9 The Ville Louisville To Debut Thursday

Union Broadcasting has closed on its acquisition of 93.9 WLCL Sellersburg/Louisville from Cumulus and will launch its new programming brand as “93.9 The Ville” on Thursday, January 29. The new Sports station will complement sister “ESPN 680/105.7” 680 WHBE Newburg/105.7 WHBE-FM Eminence with a mix of national programming and local hosts focusing on the University of Louisville Cardinals. Current WHBE morning host Drew Deener will move over to the FM in his existing 7-10am slot. John Ramsey will move from 10am-12pm on WHBE to afternoons on 93.9. Union Broadcasting Acquires 93.9 WLCL Louisville

Cumulus Media is completing its exit from Louisville as it sells 93.9 WLCL Sellersburg, IN to UB Louisville for $3,138,000. Union currently owns Sports “ESPN Louisville” 680 WHBE Newburg/105.7 WHBE-FM Eminence in the market and this acquisition gives the company a city-grade signal to bring the programming to FM throughout the market. Union will begin operating the currently silent WLCL under an LMA before the sale closes. Union Broadcasting also owns a pair of AM’s in Kansas City. The sale ends the odd run of Cumulus in Louisville, who acquired the stations as part of its purchase of Susquehanna Radio in 2006. WAYI Louisville Currently Silent; Applies For Call Change

Update 4/29: As Way Media’s LMA of 93.9 WAYI Sellersburg/Louisville comes to a close, the station has gone silent following three plus weeks of redirecting listeners to 104.3 WAYG Charlestown, IN and 105.9 WAYK Valley Station, KY. As Cumulus prepares to retake control of the station it owns, the company has filed to change WAYI’s call letters back to WLCL. The WLCL call letters were used by the station as “Classic Hits 93.9” from November 2008 until changed to WAYI in April 2011. WayMedia has flipped 105.9 WSYI Louisville, KY from a simulcast of its flagship Christian CHR format of sister 93.9 WAYI to Christian AC as “Shine 105.9“. The station is running Salem Communications “Today’s Christian Music” network. Before selling to WayMedia, Salem owned and operated the station as Christian AC “105.9 The River“.

Louisville Move-In Debuts

Cumulus has completed its move-in of 93.9 WQKC Sellersberg, IN to the Louisville market as it launches as Sports “93.9 The Ticket”. The station had been located at 93.7 in Seymour, IN (halfway between Louisville and Indianapolis) prior to its move-in.
