Chicago Public Media’s 91.3 W217BM Chicago has applied to move to 91.1. The translator will continue to operate with 99 watts from the John Hancock Center and rebroadcasting an HD subchannel of 91.5 WBEZ. The translator’s coverage should cover much of the city of Chicago. Radio-One’s 97.5 WUMJ Fayetteville, GA which serves as part of the Urban AC “Majic 107.5/97.5” Urban AC simulcast has applied for a very minor change to its signal. The station will increase power from 7.9 to 8.5kW while dropping antenna height from 175 to 165 meters. Clear Channel continues to be active moving translators into major markets. First in the nation’s capital where they are moving 94.3 W232CB Frederick, MD down I-270 towards Washington. The translator has applied to move to Clarksburg, MD where it will operate with 60 watts. The move will place it approximately 30 miles northwest of Washington in what appears to be the first step towards the Capital. In Cleveland, CC has amended its application to move 99.7 W259BI Lorain, OH to 99.1 Cleveland. As Ohio Media Watch stated, there doesn’t appear to be any difference with the previously rescinded. 640 WGST Atlanta has signed on its translator. 92.3 W223AF covers the north and east sides of Atlanta proper with 99 watts. This past week has seen a lot of moves for translators with Clear Channel making moves to add new programming options in two major markets. In Minneapolis/St. Paul, Clear Channel is teaming with EMF Broadcasting to bring two translators to the top of the IDS Center in Minneapolis. Northpine.com reports 93.3 W227BF Shoreview, MN will upgrade from 10 to 99 watts and rebroadcast 97.1 KTCZ-HD2, while 102.5 K273BH Fridley, MN will jump from 41 to 250 watts rebroadcasting 101.3 KDWB-HD2. Clear Channel purchased 103.5 K278BP Cottage Grove, MN from EMF last year. It is used to rebroadcast Sports 1130 KFAN via 100.3 KTLK-HD2. Clear Channel and EMF are also working in tandem in Detroit.
