94.3 WFAS Drops Local Programming

For the second time this week a smaller Cumulus station that serves part of a large market has removed all locally originating programming. AC “94.3 WFAS” W232AL Pomona/WPLJ-HD2 New York has let go of PD/Morning Host Mary DeSilva and afternoon host “The Hartman” and is now running Westwood One’s AC format. WFAS serves the Westchester and Rockland County suburbs north of New York City. The current iteration of the station launched last August following the move of 103.9 WFAS-FM to Bronxville where it targets portions of New York City as Urban AC “Radio 103.9” WNBM.

FCC Applications 10/16: More Translators For Orlando

Translator Moves Orlando has been one of the biggest hotbeds of translator activity and this week sees three more moves. The bigger of the moves have already been granted and will see Salem basically swap frequencies of two translators in the market. The CP for 94.9 W235CI Oviedo becomes 105.5 W288CJ with 250 watts at 65 meters rebroadcasting Conservative Talk “660 The Answer” WORL Orlando (Coverage Map). That move will enable 105.5 W288BI Deltona to move to 94.9 in Orlando with 250 watts at 134 meters rebroadcasting Christian Preaching 950 WTLN Orlando (Coverage Map). Also in Orlando, Central Florida Educational Association files to modify its recently acquired 93.3 W227CP Orlando. FCC Applications 7/10: WFAS-FM To Rise From The Ashes

Bridgelight LLC has resubmitted its proposed move of 94.3 W232AL Pomona, NY across the Hudson River. The move would bring the translator to the former tower of 103.9 WFAS-FM Bronxville in White Plains where it would operate with 250 watts at 197 meters rebroadcasting Cumulus’ 95.5 WPLJ New York (Coverage Map). Conveniently Cumulus moved WFAS-FM’s programming to WPLJ-HD2 when it launched “Radio 103.9” WNBM on July 3. Station Moves Shamrock Communications has proposed modifying its CP for 95.9 in Pahrump, NV to operate with 17kW at -103 meters (Coverage Map). Domestic Church Media’s Catholic 89.3 WFJS-FM Freehold, NJ has applied to increase from a Class A with 3.8kW at 50 meters to a B1 with 15.2kW (Coverage Map). Colorado Public Radio’s Classical 88.1 KVO...[Read More]

Suburban Translator Application Presents New York City Implications

Bridgelight LLC has proposed a move of its Pomona, NY translator that could help push along a New York move-in. 94.3 W232AL has applied to move across the Hudson River to the current tower of Cumulus’ 103.9 WFAS-FM Bronxville. From its new location the translator will be licensed to rebroadcast Cumulus’ 1230 WFAS. There will be a huge increase in power from the 3 watts that W232AL currently runs to the 250 watts translator maximum. The application is contingent on the FCC denying two translator applications from the 2003 filing window that are finally going through processing at the agency. If one of the applications on 94.3 in Dobbs Ferry, NY or Elizabeth, NJ are approved then this application is moot. If approved the translator’s directional 250 watts will cover much of...[Read More]
