Urban One has flipped Classic Hip-Hop/R&B “Boom 94.5” KSOC Gainesville/Dallas TX back to Urban AC as “Majic 94.5“. The new brand launched this morning with the return of the Tom Joyner Show to the market. Joyner, whose program originates in the market, had been heard on 94.5 until its flip to Classic Hip-Hop in November 2014. The station will also carry the syndicated DL Hughley in afternoons and “Love and R&B with John Monds” in evenings. Cindi B. remains in place for middays from 9am-2pm. Radio-One Classic Hip-Hop “Boom 94.5” KSOC Gainesville TX/Dallas has added R&B Oldies from the 1990s/2000s to its playlist and completely revamped its on-air lineup. The revamped playlist adds artists like Ashanti, Dru Hill, and Keith Sweat to the Classic Hip-Hop mix the station has featured since its launch in 2014. The Dallas Morning News reports that the station is dropping Reach Media’s syndicated Ed Lover and moving OM/PD Mark McCray’s “Mark McCrazy Experience” back into the morning slot from middays. Joining McCray will be morning newscaster Indy B and afternoon host DJ Menace. Cindi B moves into the midday slot, while G-Spook moves from weekends at sister Urban “97.9 The Beat” KBFB to afternoons.
A pair of stations made the move to the booming Classic Hip-Hop niche in Dallas on Friday night. First Cumulus CHR “Hot 93.3” KLIF-FM Haltom City launched what it is presenting as “Classic Hip-Hop For The Holidays” with a commercial-free weekend at 5:00pm. Radio-One Urban Oldies “Old School 94.5” KSOC Dallas has returned to Urban AC and its previous “K-Soul 94.5” moniker. The station is keeping a gold based presentation, but updating its music to bring back tracks from the 1990s and 2000s. The flip took place following the Tom Joyner Morning Show at 9:00 this morning and is launching with 94 hours of commercial-free music. In the Holiday 2013 PPM monthly, KSOC registered a 2.3 share.
