Reach Communications will transfer the licenses of four Tampa/St. Petersburg area translators to Clear Channel in exchange for a revised rebroadcasting agreement between Reach and Clear Channel to allow Reach to use HD subchannels to feed its other translators. The four translators are: 88.3 W202CB Bayonet Point (which has applied to relocate to 99.1), 89.3 W207B Bayonet Point (which has applied to relocate to 100.1), 92.1 W221CE Wesley Chapel South, and 94.5 W233AV Gulfport (which is already operated by Clear Channel). W202CB and W221CE will be licensed to rebroadcast a subchannel of 97.9 WXTB, while 89.3 will join 94.5 and Clear Channel’s 105.9 W290BJ West Tampa in rebroadcasting Classic Rock “Thunder” via 100.7 WMTX-HD2.

New sign-on 94.5 W233AV Gulfport, FL serves the St. Petersburg side of the market, while 105.9 W290BJ West Tampa covers the Tampa side of the bay. W290BJ had been rebroadcasting sister News/Talk 970 WFLA. Bot translators are licensed to operate with 250 watts. Clear Channel News/Talk 970 WFLA Tampa has added the first of its two planned FM translators. 105.9 W237DI (Calls Soon To Change To Match New Frequency) West Tampa has signed on bringing the AM station to FM in Hillsborough County including the city of Tampa itself. The 250 watt translator is owned by Radio Training Network, whose “JoyFM” will use an HD subchannel of Clear Channel’s 95.7 WBTP to feed some of its translators in the Tampa Bay area. WFLA will soon add a second translator to serve St. Petersburg and Pinellas County. Reach Communication’s 94.5 W233AV Gulfport has a construction permit to upgrade to 250 watts with WFLA as its station of origination.
Two weeks ago, we reported on Clear Channel’s 970 WFLA Tampa process of adding a translator on 95.3 in Tampa. Additionally, Radio Training Network’s 94.5 W233AV Gulfport, FL has had its originating station changed to WFLA which will give the station FM coverage in St. Petersburg and Clearwater. Additionally, sister station “540 WFLA” WFLF Pine Hills/Orlando will gain a translator. Reach Communications’ 104.5 W283AN Altamonte Springs, which has a CP to increase from 10 to 221 watts, will rebroadcast 540 once the upgrade is complete. 1045WFLA.com was registered on Friday and is already redirecting to WFLF’s website. Clear Channel also uses the WFLA brand on 94.5 WFLF-FM Parker/Panama City and 100.7 WFLA-FM Midway/Tallahassee.
