FCC Update 8/9: One Texas Station Forced To Modify; Another Deleted

In March, the FCC issued an Order To Show Cause to LKCM Country “95.9 the Ranch” KFWR Jacksboro/Fort Worth, TX over its use of a side-mounted antenna sending double the licensed power including in the direction of Lake Country Radio’s 95.9 KCKL Malakoff, TX. The agency sought for KFWR to give reasons why KFWR’s total power output shouldn’t be dropped from 25kW to 9.1kW to limit the radiation to 100kW in all directions, while reclassifying their antenna system as directional. FCC Orders To Show Cause To KFWR Over Power Output

LKCM Country “95.9 the Ranch” KFWR Jacksboro/Fort Worth, TX has been issued a Order to Show Cause to show why it should not be relicensed with a directional antenna. Lake Country Radio’s 95.9 KCKL Malakoff, TX alleged to the commission that KFWR’s new facility that was licensed on 2/21/13 is putting more power towards KCKL’s protected contour via use of a directional antenna. KFWR is currently licensed with a 100kW effective radiated power at 425 meters above average terrain (Coverage Map). Lake alleges that KFWR’s use of a side-mounted antenna is causing KFWR to send more than double the licensed power in certain directions. LKCM Radio’s Texas Country “95.9 The Ranch” has completed its upgrade and move closer to the Dallas/Fort Worth market. Previously licensed to Mineral Wells where it operated with 80kW at 329 meters, the station has relicensed to Jacksboro with 100kW at 425 meters. Just northeast of Boston, Westport Communications’ Classic Hits “North Shore 104.9” WBOQ Gloucester, MA has moved slightly to the west increasing the potential amount of listeners over its coverage area.
