People Moves 2/7: Tommy Carroll Joins WGRD As Program Director

Townsquare Media Rock 97.9 WGRD Grand Rapids MI has appointed Tommy Carroll as Program Director. Carroll joins WGRD from Federated Media Rock “103.9 The Bear” WRBR South Bend IN. He joined WRBR in 2000 as afternoon host and rose to Program Director in 2008 and then became Digital Content Director for Federated’s South Bend cluster in 2013. He will also host afternoons for WGRD. Dick Broadcasting has added Global Media Services’ to mornings at Alternative 96.1 WKZQ-FM Forestbrook/Myrtle Beach SC. ESPN Returns To Myrtle Beach

Next Media has flipped 1450 WRNN Myrtle Beach from a simulcast of sister News/Talk 99.5 WRNN-FM Socastee to Sports running the national “ESPN Radio” feed. The move returns the network to Myrtle Beach for the first time since January when Cumulus shifted “100.3 The Team” WSEA to CBS Sports Radio for that network’s launch. In addition to carrying the 24/7 programming feed from ESPN Radio on 1450, the Mike & Mike Show will also air in mornings on sister Modern Rock 96.1 WKZQ. The show replaces the syndicated Free Beer & Hot Wings on 96.1.

Charleston, SC is going to see a shakeup of its radio dial that hasn’t been seen anywhere in quite some time. Here’s a quick rundown of the changes: Citadel’s “Cat Country” 107.5 WNKT moves into the Columbia market. Citadel’s Urban AC 101.7 WMGL (currently in a trust until WNKT moves) moves to 107.3 with a stronger city grade signal. Apex’s Variety Hits “Chuck-FM” 96.1 WAVF moves to 101.7 (via a swap of licences with Next Media’s 101.7 WKZQ Myrtle Beach moving to 96.1) by taking each others intellectual property. Apex acquires 95.7 WWBD in Bamburg, SC which moves into the Charleston market while moving to 95.9 in Isle of Palms and increasing from a Class A to Class C2.
