Entercom News/Talk 1140 WRVA Richmond VA has returned to the FM band with a simulcast on 96.1 W241AP Midlothian on New Years Day. The simulcast replaces Classic Rock “96.1 The Planet” on the translator. WRVA previously simulcast on 98.5 W253BI from May 2014 until its July 2015 flip to Country. Planet Returns To Richmond’s Orbit

Clear Channel has returned the Classic Rock “Planet” brand to Richmond, VA. 106.9 W295BF Midlothian, which Clear Channel purchased from Liberty University of $50,000 in March, has completed its upgrade from 10 to 145 watts with a relocation to 96.1. At 12pm today the stations launched as Classic Rock “96.1 The Planet“. The station’s website shows that it will feature the syndicated Bob & Tom in the morning and the Premium Choice lineup of Classic Rock jocks the rest of the day. The new format will flank sister Modern Rock “XL 102” WRXL against Cox’ Mainstream Rock “Rock 96.5” WKLR. It was WKLR that previously used the “Planet” moniker during its Classic Rock phase from 1997 until 2008.

The FCC has begun to clear out the list of translator applications from 2003 that have been stuck in limbo while LPFM rules were set. With those now in place, hundreds of applications have been dismissed. Recnet features a list of the applications that remain active following the purge. Chicago Public Media has completed the move of 90.5 WRTE Chicago to 90.7. With the move to downtown Chicago, the station has relaunched with the user-generated programming of “Vocalo“, which is also heard on 89.5 WBEW Chesterton, IN. Its previous Spanish “Radio Arte” programming remains online. With it about to be bumped from its current home at 106.7 due to interference issue, Alternative KWSS-LP Scottsdale will relocate to 93.9 on March 10. FCC Report 1/18: Chicago Flash Cut, Phoenix Move-In & More

WLFM, LLC has begun the process to convert WKQX-LP to digital. The low-powered television station is known to radio listeners as Merlin Media’s Alternative “Q87.7“. With the September 2015 deadline for all remaining analog LPTV’s to convert to digital, the flashcut will need to happen by then. The digital transition will end the ability of the LPTV on Channel 6 to masquerade as a radio station. That will not mean the end of Q87.7 any time soon. Once the FCC approves the application the station will have three years to build out the new digital facilities. That will take it well past the September 2015 drop dead date for analog LPTV, keeping WKQX’s programming safe until at least then.
