Eagle Radio Group To LMA Tupelo Pair

A pair of format changes are incoming to Tupelo MS as Eagle Radio Group will begin operating Alternative “I96” WXWX Marietta and CHR “Wild 102.9” WWMR Saltillo MS via LMA on May 1. WXWX will move from a simulcast of 96.1 WIVG Tunica MS/Memphis TN to one of Country “95.3 The Bee” WADI Corinth. WWMR will jettison the Rhythmic CHR format it just debuted last December in favor of adopting the Southern Gospel programming currently heard on “The Eagle” 1490 WBIP/99.7 W259CP Booneville MS. WBIP/W259CP intend to flip to Christian AC.

WHBQ Expands To Tupelo

The station that first played Elvis Presley is now available in his hometown. After stunting with a loop of Frosty The Snowman for the past two months, Flinn Broadcasting’s 96.3 WXWX Marietta/Tupelo MS has flipped back to Sports with a simulcast of “Sports 56” 560 WHBQ/87.7 WPGF-LP Memphis. Prior to beginning its Frosty stunt, WXWX was operated via LMA by Telesouth Communications as “ESPN 96.3“. The end of the LMA on August 1 left the Tupelo market without a Sports station.

Outlaw 102.9 Debuts In Tupelo

MD Broadcasting launched the first of its two new Tupelo formats on Labor Day as 102.9 WWMR Saltillo ended its stunt loop of Alan Jackson’s Gone Country and went Country as “Outlaw 102.9” The new format is running jockless with 20,000 songs commercial free. Meanwhile sister 96.3 WXWX Marrieta continues to loop Kimberly Locke’s cover of Frosty The Snowman. Massive Tupelo Market Shakeup Takes Place

The Tupelo MS market has seen a dramatic shakeup over the past few weeks. The changes started on July 29 with iHeartMedia’s flip of 99.3 WBVV to Classic Hits “Big 99.3“. Then Telesouth Communications closed on its acquisitions of Variety Hits “Max 95.9” WCNA and AC “Power 101.9” WFTA and ceased their LMA’s of Flinn Broadcasting’s 96.3 WXWX and 102.9 WWMR leading to new formats on all four of those frequencies.
