Pair Of Oklahoma City Changes On The Way

A pair of stations in the Oklahoma City market may soon find themselves with new formats. Tyler Media CHR “Now 96.5” K243BJ Oklahoma City/107.7 KRXO-HD3 is now simulcasting on 92.9 K225BN Oklahoma City and starting to direct listeners to the new frequency. Now929.com and 929Now.com were registered last week for the station. While none of the station’s web presences indicate the new frequency yet, on-air sweepers state that the station is “Now at 92.9”. No word yet on what will eventually come to 96.5. Meanwhile, Last Bastion Station Trust manager Jeff Couch registered 1053TheMartini.com on October 29. Station Sales Week Of 10/31

Station Sales Chesapeake-Portsmouth Broadcasting is acquiring Gospel 1600 WCPK Chesapeake, VA from Christian Broadcasting of Chesapeake in exchange for building out the seller’s 1400 WPCE Portsmouth and a one year free lease for that station’s antenna. Following the first year, WPCE will pay a lease price starting at $600 a month with a 5% annual increase for 15 years. Chesapeake-Portsmouth has been operating 1600 WCPK via Time Brokerage Agreement since January. Following the sale it will join a local cluster including Christian Preaching 1010 WPMH Portsmouth, Gospel “The Light 1270” WTJZ Newport News, and Conservative Talk “1650 The Answer” WHKT Portsmouth. Now 96.5 Oklahoma City Launches

Update 9/13: Tyler quietly launched “Now 96.5” on Thursday evening on 96.5 K243BJ and 107.7 KRXO-HD3. The station is quadrupling the seemingly normal launch prerequisite and launching with 40,000 songs in a row commercial-free, which will take the station through the end of 2013. Original Report 8/11: As Tyler Media prepares to take on Cumulus for the Sports audience in Oklahoma City, it is also preparing another programming change. Following the registration of Now965.com it looks as though Tyler is preparing to take on Clear Channel CHR “KJ 103” KJYO. 96.5 is K243BJ, a translator currently relaying “Comedy 1560” KEBC. We start our semi-regular look at FCC applications in Boston where Horizon Christian Fellowship is looking to relocate 103.7 W279BQ Gloucester, MA to the John Hancock Tower in downtown Boston. If approved, the translator will operate with 10 watts. It is currently licensed to rebroadcast Christian “Renew-FM” 90.1 WRYP Wellfleet, MA. Translators have had a hard time completing upgrades in Detroit due to its proximity to the Canadian border and tight spacing to nearby markets. That isn’t stopping EMF from making an attempt to increase the signal at its 98.3 W252BX. The translator has applied to upgrade to a directional 250 watts pointed directly towards downtown Detroit from its current 170 watt license.
