Cox News/Talk 96.5 WDBO-FM Orlando has rebranded as it places a higher emphasis on its News elements. Now identifying as “News 96.5“, WDBO-FM is promoting itself as “Orlando’s New 24 Hour News, Traffic, and Weather“. The move is the latest in a series of brand adjustments over the past couple years. In August 2011, the station began its FM simulcast as it replaced “96 Rock” WHTQ. In November 2012, 580 WDBO broke away from the simulcast to flip to Sports “ESPN Orlando“. Update 11/12: 580 WDBO made the flip to ESPN Radio this morning. In addition to the ESPN Radio lineup, WDBO will carry a local 4-6pm show hosted by Scott Anez who will continue in his duties as host of the 6pm hourlong news block on 96.5 WDBO-FM and Orlando Magic programming on both 580 and 96.5. Cox Media Group has announced that News/Talk 580 WDBO Orlando will begin simulcasting on 96.5 WHTQ on Friday, August 19 at 5:00am. WHTQ had just shifted in February from Classic Rock to a broader Rock format as “96 Rock“. The station dropped to a 3 share in the July ratings. Among the shows out as part of the change is the syndicated Bubba The Love Sponge. WDBO had recently added an FM translator on the western side of the Orlando market, but that wasn’t enough to keep Cox from needing a full-powered FM to rebroadcast WDBO.
