Entercom AC 96.5 KYXY San Diego has promoted APD/MD Mark Blackwell to Program Director. Blackwell is coming up on his 35th anniversary at the station starting as News Director in 1983, adding Music Director duties in 1986, and the APD title in 1988. He takes the programming duties from Operations Manager Kevin Callahan will continue in that role and as PD of Alternative “Alt 94.9” KBZT and Country 103.7 KSON. For the second time in seven months, AJ Machado is changing stations in San Diego. Machado first moved from CHR “Energy 103.7” KEGY to CBS Radio sister AC 96.5 KYXY last August. He was paired with Sara Perry and Hula Ramos at KYXY and now the three of them are moving to new Entercom sister Classic Hits “Sunny 98.1” KXSN for mornings effective Thursday, February 1 where it will be rebranded as “AJ & Sara on Sunny 98.1”. Machado will be joined by former 100.7 KFMB-FM midday host Sara Perry, who had been at that station for 17 years through three formats prior to departing last month. CBS Radio AC 96.5 KYXY San Diego is making a change in mornings. “Jeff & The Showgram” were let go following their program today potentially ending a near 30 year run in San Diego mornings for Jeff Detrow and co-hosts Laura Cain, Emily Griffiths, and producer ‘Little’ Tommy Sablan. Another member of the show, Randy Hoag, had exited in January. Following the retirement of Jerry Cesak in October 2015, the “Jeff & Jer” show had been renamed as “Jeff & The Showgram”. The duo came to San Diego in 1988 following brief runs in Detroit and Chicago. During their time in the market they worked at 94.9 KWLT, 100.7 KFMB-FM, 106.5 KKLQ, and finally joined KYXY in 2011.
CBS AC 96.5 KYXY San Diego Program Director Charlie Quinn has announced his resignation after sixteen years with the station to devote more time to his family in Florida.
