Ebro Returns To Portland For Third Gig

Alpha Media Urban “We 96.3” KWEE West Linn/Portland is bringing Ebro Darden back to the market. The morning host at Emmis’ “Hot 97” WQHT New York and evening host on Apple’s Beats 1 will be heard on KWEE from 1-4pm along with his WQHT morning co-host Laura Stylez. Darden worked in the Portland market from 1999 through 2003 at Rose City Radio’s “Jammin 95.5” KXJM and served as the imaging voice of KWEE when it launched in August. Alpha Media, Portland announced today the addition of Ebro and Laura Stylez to WE 96.3 (KWEE). The duo will take to the airwaves from 1-4pm M-F, starting October 24th. Hot 97’s Nessa Goes Into Syndication

“Hot 97” WQHT New York afternoon host and MTV personality Nessa is launching a daily five hour syndicated show to be offered in any daypart. “Nessa On Air” will be distributed by Benztown for use on CHR, Rhythmic, or Urban formatted stations. The first affiliate will be CBS CHR “99.7 Now” KMVQ San Francisco, who will air the program from 10pm-2am starting Monday, June 6. WQHT To Expand Summer Jam To Tokyo

Emmis Rhythmic CHR “Hot 97” WQHT New York is expanding its annual Summer Jam concert internationally. In addition to holding the annual concert on June 5 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford NJ, the station will hold “Hot 97 Summer Jam Tokyo” on July 29. No performers have been announced yet, but the station promises a mix of international and Japanese Hip-Hop acts. Deon Levingston Out As Emmis NY Market Manager; Others Too?

Emmis New York Market Manager/GM Deon Levingston has exited the company following the expiration of his contract at the end of 2015. Levingston joined Emmis in February 2014 as part of the company’s purchase of WBLS and WLIB New York from YMF Media where he had served as VP and GM for the stations under YMF and Inner City Broadcasting’s ownership. He also served as President of YMF from October 2013 until joining Emmis. In addition to Levingston, we have heard that other employees across the company on the upper end of the pay scale will not have their contracts renewed as they come up for renewal. Peter Rosenberg Joins Michael Kay Show

Peter Rosenberg is joining the exclusive club of co-hosting two drive-time programs for different companies. The current “Hot 97” WQHT New York morning co-host will join “ESPN 98.7” WEPN-FM’s Michael Kay Show from 4-7pm daily as the third co-host starting Tuesday, September 15. Rosenberg will join Kay, the lead play-by-play announcer for the New York Yankees on YES Network and Don LaGreca at WEPN-FM. Rosenberg’s WQHT co-host Ebro Darden is one of the others heard in both drive time periods as he is heard on Apple’s Beats 1 from 6-8pm weekdays.

Hot 97 Goes Viral As Listeners Revolt

A feud between rappers Drake and Meek Mill was supposed to be escalated this evening on Emmis Rhythmic CHR “Hot 97” WQHT New York, but instead the station was left with listeners in revolt and petitions for Funkmaster Flex to quit the station. The feud began when Mill accused Drake last week of using a ghostwriter on his songs. Drake released a diss-track on Saturday to go after Mill and Hot 97’s Funkmaster Flex who released a reference track used by Drake during production. Hot 97 Names New PD & Afternoon Host

Emmis Rhythmic CHR “Hot 97” has hired Pio Ferro as its new Program Director and Nessa as afternoon host. Ferro was PD of “Power 96” WPOW Miami until exiting the station when CBS closed on its purchase of the station from Beasley Broadcasting in December. Ferro previously has worked as VP of Hispanic Programming for CBS Dallas and VP/National Program Director of Spanish Broadcasting System. Ferro succeeds Jay Dixon, who was named PD last July. Dixon will return to his previous role as consultant for WQHT and sister Urban AC 107.5 WBLS. The most transitional phase in the history of Emmis Urban “Hot 97” WQHT New York will include a new Program Director. Jay Dixon, who has served as Interim Program Director since Ebro Darden stepped down in March to focus on his on-air duties, will take the reigns on a permanent basis. Dixon previously programmed Emmis now-defunct Urban AC “98.7 Kiss-FM” WRKS New York before it was leased to ESPN in 2012. Hot 97 has seen a number of transitions this year.
