Frank Glass McCoy's 103.3 W277CV Waukegan IL seeks a Mattoon Waiver to move to the WDJT-TV tower just north of downtown Milwaukee as the Whitefish Bay School District has requested the dismissal and deletion of its Construction Permit for what would have been 103.3 WFBW-LP Whitefish Bay. W277CV would operate with 250w/255m rebroadcasting Mike Crute's recently launched Liberal Talk "NewsTalk 1510" WRRD Waukesha/Milwaukee.

FCC Update 8/9: One Texas Station Forced To Modify; Another Deleted

In March, the FCC issued an Order To Show Cause to LKCM Country “95.9 the Ranch” KFWR Jacksboro/Fort Worth, TX over its use of a side-mounted antenna sending double the licensed power including in the direction of Lake Country Radio’s 95.9 KCKL Malakoff, TX. The agency sought for KFWR to give reasons why KFWR’s total power output shouldn’t be dropped from 25kW to 9.1kW to limit the radiation to 100kW in all directions, while reclassifying their antenna system as directional. A response from KFWR offered to remove the mounting pole and parasitics from the antenna. KFWR took great offense to the reclassification as directional as the agency had previously not established how much distortion is permitted while using a side-mounted non-directional antenna. FCC Applications 6/7: Pair Of Stations Sliding Closer To Phoenix

Station Moves 1TV.com’s “Oldies 97.3 KIKO-FM Claypool/Globe, AZ is attempting to make a move to better reach the east side of the Phoenix market. KIKO-FM seeks to shift to 96.5 and upgrade from a Class C3 to a Class C with 32kW at 981 meters (Coverage Map). To make the move happen, Petracom Hot AC “96.5 The Storm” KRFM Show Low would have to relocate to 98.5 with a downgrade from a Class C to a Class C0 with no changes to its 100kW at 303 meters facilities via a Show Cause Order. Just south of Phoenix, East Valley Institute of Technology applies to downgrade its CP for 88.7 KPNG Chandler from a Class C1 to C3 with 15kW at 113 meters (Coverage Map). After being silent for a few months, 1TV.com’s 97.3 KIKO-FM Claypool, AZ has returned to the air as “Oldies 97.3“. Positioning itself against CBS Classic Hits 94.5 KOOL-FM as the only station playing mostly 60s music, the station is targeting the nearby Phoenix market which it rimshots from the east (Coverage Map). As the FCC prepares to clear out the frozen 2003 Translator applications and open up the LPFM filing window later this year, many existing translators are hurrying to get their upgrades into the system. The past two weeks have been filled with dozens of upgrades applications. Starting in New York where 106.3 W292DV is trying once again to get relocated into the city. After discarding its hopes to operate in the city last year following interference claims the translator was unable to build out its CP on the Queens/Nassau county border. The translator has now applied for an STA to return to Long Island City, Queens with 4 watts to keep the license alive. Pair Of Phoenix Changes

Two AM’s and a translator in Phoenix will debut new programming on Monday, April 1. 1TV.com’s “NewsTalk 1260 & 96.1” KBSZ Apache Junction/K241BQ Fort McDowell will drop its mix of syndicated and brokered Talk programming to simulcast sister Comedy “Funny 97.3” KIKO-FM Claypool. Both stations rimshot Phoenix from the eastern edge of the metro, but the addition of 1260/96.1 should improve its coverage in the suburbs of Mesa, Gilbert, and parts of Scottsdale. Sandusky’s “The Fan 1060” KDUS Tempe will rebrand as “NBC Sports Radio AM 1060“. NBC Sports Radio will replace Yahoo! Sports Radio as the station’s primary affiliation. Comedy Comes To Dallas, Raleigh & “Phoenix”

Update 1/30: The Raleigh/Durham affiliate of 24/7 Comedy will be Curtis Media’s 570 WQDR. WQDR has been of the air since a tornado destroyed its tower last April. Funny570.com was registered on January 17 and Facebook and Twitter pages is currently active with the Curtis Media logo. The former “Country Legends 570” is going to de diplexed on the tower of sister 680 WPTF when it returns to the air as “Funny 570” with 1kW daytime and 40 watts at night. An application to extend its allowed period of silence was filed on January 12 with the expectation that the station will be back on the air within 60 days.
