After flipping from a simulcast of Urban AC “Majic 107.5” WAMJ Roswell to Classic Hip-Hop “Boom 102.9” W275BK Decatur at the beginning of this year, Radio-One is reversing course on 97.5 WUMJ Fayetteville GA. WUMJ covers the south side of the Atlanta market and the move comes after declining ratings for WAMJ. After stating in January that, “We found that almost all of our listeners of MAJIC 107.5/97.5 were only listening on 107.5 since we upgraded our signal three years ago,” VP/GM Tim Davies reversed stance in today’s announcement commenting, “One signal wasn’t strong enough to reach all of our audience. Our South Atlanta audience missed listening to The Steve Harvey Morning Show, Maria More and The Ride with SiMan and Chubb Rock in th...[Read More]

The change is coordinated with the debut tomorrow of the syndicated Ed Lover Show in mornings on Radio-One’s Classic Hip-Hop stations. The addition of WUMJ increases Boom’s coverage to the south of Atlanta including the Peachtree City and Newnan areas (Coverage Map). General Manager Tim Davies stated in the press release that most of Majic’s audience moved over to 107.5 following the upgrade of its signal three years ago making 97.5 expendable. Clear Channel has acquired the Construction Permit for 97.5 W248BV Cumming, GA from Community Public Radio for $110,000. The translator, located about 40 miles northeast of Atlanta, is currently licensed to operate with 4 watts at 199.5 meters (Coverage Map). Clear Channel’s application states the translator will be used to rebroadcast 105.7 WRDA Canton, GA. If Clear Channel has an intent to move W248BV closer to Atlanta or increase its power it will need to find a new frequency as to not interfere with Radio One’s “Majic 97.5” WUMJ Fayetteville.
Chicago Public Media’s 91.3 W217BM Chicago has applied to move to 91.1. The translator will continue to operate with 99 watts from the John Hancock Center and rebroadcasting an HD subchannel of 91.5 WBEZ. The translator’s coverage should cover much of the city of Chicago. Radio-One’s 97.5 WUMJ Fayetteville, GA which serves as part of the Urban AC “Majic 107.5/97.5” Urban AC simulcast has applied for a very minor change to its signal.
