Jimmy Steele Adds WABD Mobile PD Duties As Sid Kelly Moves To Energy 93.9 Indianapolis

Cumulus Media has announced that Sid Kelly is moving from the Program Director position at CHR 97.5 WABD Mobile to the same slot at “Energy 93.9” WYRG Lawrence/Indianapolis IN. Filling Kelly’s opening in Mobile will be Jimmy Steele. Steele joined Cumulus Mobile in June 2017 as Operation Manager and midday host at WABD. Cumulus Media has promoted Don Boyd to VP/Market Manager of its five stations in Mobile AL. Boyd has spent the past three years as General Sales Manager for the company’s Atlanta GA properties and also worked for the company from 2001-2008 as GSM of its Nashville properties. He has also served as Regional Manager for Bott Radio Network, Vice President of Advertising for Dickey Publishing, Regional Generl Manager of Root Communications during his career. Zazza & Cheree Get Syndicated To Mobile & Fort Walton Beach

Cumulus Media is syndicating Tony Zazza and Cheree Carter’s morning show based at CHR “107.1 WA1A” WAOA Melbourne FL to sister stations “Z96” 96.5 WZNS Fort Walton Beach and 97.5 WABD Mobile AL. “Zazza Mornings with Cheree” will debut on both stations on Monday, September 26. In both markets the current morning shows will move to another daypart. At WZNS Gilligan will move from mornings to 9am-2pm, with Hayden adding the 2pm hour to his afternoon show. In Mobile, John Marty moves from mornings to afternoons while Program Director Sid Kelly shifts from afternoons to middays. Both stations carry the syndicated Zach Sang Show at night. WABD Returning Home To 97.5

Update 7/10: The deal includes two parts. Cumulus is trading 97.1 WRQQ Nashville to EMF for 97.5 WLVM. EMF will then pay Cumulus $1.6 Million for the license of WDLT. Original Report 7/9: Cumulus CHR 104.1 WABD Mobile announced this morning that it will relocate back to its “original home” of 97.5 on Sunday, July 15 at 12pm. WABD launched on March 1 picking up the format and airstaff of 97.5 WABB-FM following that station’s sale and format change to Christian AC “K-Love” WLVM. Update 3/1: WABB went out with a bang. Quite possibly one of the best produced farewell packages for any radio station. Listen to it at FormatChange.com. As EMF’s K-Love takes over 97.5, with it comes new WLVM call letters. Those calls were in use at EMF’s Ironwood, MI station. Update 2/29: Cumulus’ 104.1 WYOK has changed call letters to WABD and appears to be ready to take the CHR mantle from 97.5 in some form. Update 2/21: EMF paid $3.1 Million for 97.5. Not included in the purchase is News/Talk 1480 WABB and any 97.5’s intellectual property. This leaves open the possibility of WABB’s CHR format being resuscitated on another station.
