People Moves 1/24: Alpha Makes Cuts In A Few Markets

Alpha Media has made some talent cuts at its Bakersfield CA and Biloxi MS clusters. In Bakersfield, Conservative Talk 1560 KNZR/97.7 KNZR-FM has parted ways with 12-3pm host Jaz McKay and 3-6pm host Inga Barks. McKay was in the news last week for racist comments he made on Facebook in regards to the number of Spanish language stations in Bakersfield. Sean Hannity has been added to fill the 12-3pm slot while the station’s website now lists Terry Maxwell in the 3-6pm slot. In Biloxi, afternoon host Riley Knight is out at Rock 97.9 WCPR while Valerie Kattz exits her early afternoon shift at CHR “107.1 The Monkey” WXYK and as afternoon traffic reporter at the cluster. Alpha Media Acquires Buckley’s Bakersfield/Merced Stations

Update 10/16: Alpha Media is paying $5.8 million for the six stations. Original Report 10/10: Alpha Media is expanding into California with the purchase of Buckley Broadcasting’s six stations in Bakersfield and Merced. The stations involved in the deal are: Bakersfield – Hot AC “Kelly 95.3” KLLY, News/Talk 97.7 KNZR-FM/1560 KNZR, and Rhythmic Oldies “Groove 99.3” KKBB Merced – Country 96.3 KUBB and Rhythmic CHR “Hot 104.7” KHTN Following the deal, Buckley will be down to just one station (Sports “ESPN 630” KIDD Monterey) as it winds down its divestitures over the past few years. KNZR Bakersfield Adds FM Simulcast

Today’s entrant in the AM News/Talk station adding an FM simulcast comes from Bakersfield, CA where 1560 KNZR took the spot vacated by AC “Mix 97.7” KSMJ at noon today. The following message to Mix’s audience appeared on the station’s website and Facebook page: “Thank you to all of the Mix 97.7 listeners that have supported us throughout the years. While we are sad to say goodbye to Mix 97.7, we are excited to usher in a new era of radio in Bakersfield. For those Mix listeners that would like to continue listening to music, you can find some terrific choices at Kelly 95.3 and Groove 99.3.
