Classic Country 98.1 Albuquerque Rebrands As The Bull

A week after celebrating its third anniversary, iHeartMedia has relaunched “Classic Country 98.1” K251AU/KBQI-HD2 Albuquerque as “98.1 The Bull“. No programming changes accompany the rebranding as the station continues to run iHeart’s Premium Choice programming. The translator was 11th in the market with a 2.6 share in the most recent Winter Phase 2 Nielsen Audio ratings trends outranking many full powered signals in the market.

Albuquerque’s Classic Country On The Move

Clear Channel is moving Classic Country to a new home in Albuquerque. On Friday, June 21, the format of “Classic Country 104.7” from KABQ-FM Bosque Farms to 98.1 K251AU Albuquerque. No word yet on what will replace it on 104.7. Clear Channel acquired K251AU from Maria Candelaria in April for $170,000. It has just filed a license to cover for its signal upgrade to 165 watts rebroadcasting 107.9 KBQI-HD2. That’s still a steep drop from the 100kW signal of 104.7. In the Winter 2012 Arbitron ratings KABQ-FM registered a 2.3 share of the Albuquerque market.

Women’s World Broadcasting has filed a pair of applications to increase its profile in Atlanta following its recent purchase of 107.1 W296BB Jonesboro, GA from Life Radio Ministries for $15,000. The translator has applied to move into Atlanta proper where it would operate with a directional 250 watts. The translator will cover the southern half of Atlanta while rebroadcasting Cox’ 98.5 WSB-HD3. The second application will increase Women’s World’s Country “South 107” WTSH Aragon. The application to move to a new tower site will put the station’s 60dBu contour directly over the portions of Atlanta that W296BB will not cover.
