Translator Report 3/14: More Translators In Baltimore & St. Louis

Hope Christian Church of Marlton, NJ’s partnership with CBS has already brought Modern Rock “HFS” back to life on 97.5 W248AO Baltimore. Two of Hope’s other Baltimore area translators are making moves to improve their signals in the market. 98.3 W252BR Edgemere, MD has applied to move from the southeastern side of Baltimore to the southwestern side near Ellicot City, MD where it would operate with a directional 250 watts to prevent interference to 98.5 WYCR York, PA. 98.3 will be fed via the currently non-existant HD4 subchannel of CBS’ 101.9 WLIF. Translator Report 7/21

The FCC has begun to clear its large backlog of pending translator applications in order to ensure some frequencies remain available for LPFM’s in their respective markets. Over 2000 translators applications were wiped out en masse. Among the markets where the translator applications will still be processed are Charlotte, Sacramento, San Antonio, Orlando, Raleigh/Durham, Nashville, Greensboro/Winston-Salem, Oklahoma City, and Memphis. This has no bearing on any existing translator on-air or with a construction permit in these given markets, but could result in a slow down of new move-ins. See the list of markets here. And now for this week’s rundown of some of the top stories from around the translator world. Broadcast Towers Inc. signed a consent decree with the FCC to shut down operations in Florida after the company used roadside locations to temporary operate its translators as it attempted to move them from the Florida Keys into the Miami/Fort Lauderdale area. Five translators have been deleted by the FCC: W224BW Key Largo, W237DK Leisure City, W237CI Miami Beach, W258AQ Homestead, and W296BP Coral Gables.
