After two decades on iHeartMedia Sports “1300 The Zone” KVET and Country 98.1 KVET-FM Austin, the University of Texas is moving its sports broadcasts to Austin Radio Network’s cluster of stations. The entire cluster will air UT Football games including pre and post-game coverage. A day after celebrating its first anniversary on air, Texas/Classic Country KOKE-FM Austin has added a third over the air signal for its programming. 98.5 K253AN Sunset Valley, TX has moved out of Austin’s West Lake Hills to serve South Austin and Hays County southwest of Austin. Replacing that translator in serving Austin itself is 105.3 K287FG Austin. The 75 watt translator covers Travis County and Austin proper. The two translators extend the reach of northeast Austin rimshot 99.3 KOKE-FM Thorndale into the Austin market. The station’s programming is also heard on 107.1 KLZT-HD4, which is the originating station for both translators. Update 7/4: The Austin American-Statesman has many more details on the pending launch of KOKE-FM. Bob Cole, Jason Nassaor, and former KVET afternoon host Eric Raines are among the partners in the station. They are currently LMAing the station from REO Radio Group and are close to finalizing an outright purchase. The station will launch on Sunday, July 8 with Bob Cole’s morning show coming on Monday. Update 7/2: The loop of 99.3 has switched to a custom version of Dale Watson’s song called “Country My Ass”, with the final line “Now Austin’s on track ’cause KOKE-FM’s back!”. Reo Radio Group’s Christian Talk “The Word” 99.3 KLGO Thorndale/98.5 K253AN Austin is moving its programming to sister 1490 KFON. The AM had been running Spanish Christian programming as “La Palabra“. Prior to moving to FM in 2006, KLGO’s programming had been on 970 KIXL Austin. 99.3 KLGO is a rimshot to Austin operating with 6kW at 328 foot from the northeast of the market. 98.5 K253AN fills in coverage in Austin proper with 50 watts at 573 feet with a Construction Permit to upgrade to 115 watts. No word (pun intended) on what will replace “The Word” on 99.3 and 98.5 yet.
