People Moves 2/6: Jeff Detrow & CJ Lusk Make Moves To Christian Radio

Educational Media Foundation’s “K-Love” launched a new on-air lineup in January. The morning show hosted by Skip Mahaffey and Amy Baumann remains in place from 6-11am eastern/3-8am pacific. Afternoon host Scott Smith moves to middays to reteam with Kelli Caldwell in the 11am-4pm/8am-1pm slot replacing Mike Kankelfritz who left in November. Longtime San Diego morning host Jeff Detrow of “Jeff & Jer” fame has joined as co-host of the 4-9pm/1-6pm afternoon show. Detrow will be paired with former night host Randi Tyler, while Larry Wayne takes the 9pm-3am/6pm-12am slot. Alpha Media Country “98.7 The Bull” KUPL Portland has announced the addition of Jenn Hays to the station’s morning show alongside Tony Russell and Jake Byron. Hays joins KUPL from Townsquare Media’s Billings cluster where she served as Music Director at “Cat Country 102.9” KCTR-FM and afternoon host at CHR “97.1 Kiss-FM” KKBR under the name Jenn Parker. The Oregon native previously worked in promotions at Entercom Country “99.5 The Wolf” KWJJ Portland and at CBS Radio’s 94.1 KMPS Seattle. Returning to the on-air name Big Boy that he used while working at nights at iHeartMedia CHR “Channel 95.5” WKQI Detroit from 2006 through 2009, he will join current WMGC morning host Shay Shay for “Big Boy In The Morning”. Alpha Media Country “98.7 The Bull” KUPL Portland has announced the addition of Tony Russell to the station’s morning show joining incumbents McKenzie Roth & Jake Byron starting Monday, March 20. Russell previously spent ten years as co-host at “100.7 The Wolf” KKWF Seattle’s “Fitz In The Morning” prior to exiting in October 2015. He also spent time at WFLC Miami, KJYO Oklahoma City, and KPLX, KRBV and KVIL Dallas. Russell will replace Chunky on KUPL’s morning show. Alpha Media has hired MoJoe Roberts as the new PD/Afternoon Host for Country “98.7 The Bull” KUPL Portland. Roberts joins Alpha from Cumulus Media where he spent the past 14 years in their Modesto cluster including ten years as PD of CHR 95.1 KHOP and three and a half years as PD of Rhythmic CHR 97.7 KWIN/98.3 KWNN. He began his career on-air in Country working at KXDD Yakima, KQFC Boise and KATM Modesto. A fairly significant on-air turnover has taken place at Alpha Media’s Portland, OR cluster. Incoming to mornings at Country “98.7 The Bull” KUPL is former “Wired 96.5” WRDW-FM Philadelphia morning host Chunky. With much of his previous experience in CHR, Chunky or “Big Boy” as he was formerly known also worked at “Kiss 95.1” WNKS Charlotte, “Channel 95.5” WKQI Detroit, “92.3 Now” WNOW-FM New York, and “Z90” XHTZ San Diego. Alpha and L&L To Merge; Acquire Main Line Broadcasting

Larry Wilson is merging his two operating companies into one and acquiring another. Alpha Broadcasting and L&L Broadcasting will merge to become Alpha Media, while purchasing Main Line Broadcasting’s 19 stations in four markets for $57 million. Both Alpha and L&L were founded by Larry Wilson sharing the same management teams with L&L already operating Alpha’s stations. Following the completion of the two transactions the company will operate 68 radio stations in 12 markets. L&L’s deal to acquire Main Line was first reported in February by Tom Taylor Now. Alpha Launches Two New Morning Shows In Portland

Alpha Broadcasting has launched new morning shows at two of its Portland, OR stations. Country “98.7 The Bull” KUPL completes its revamp from January with the debut of the “Morning Bull Ride With Howie, Monica, and Jake“. Station vet Jake Byron is being joined by former “Alice 105.9” KALC Denver morning host Howie Drummond and Monica Lunsford, most recently of “I94” WRWM Indianapolis. CHR “Live 95.5” KBFF debuts “The Morning Mess“. Incumbent co-host Nikki West is being joined by Mike Edwards and Tanya Brown from “95SX” WSSX Charleston’s “Two Girls And A Guy“. The duo replace the now departed Cabana Boy.

KUPL Portland Gets Bullish

Alpha Broadcasting Country 98.7 KUPL Portland will rebrand as “98.7 The Bull” at 12am on Thursday. Keeping its position as a younger skewing Country outlet, the station will play 10,000 songs commercial free. With the relaunch comes a staff overhaul. Morning hosts Scott Simon and Jolynn Winter and midday host Lola are out and night host Danny Dwyer remains in an off-air position. Afternoon host B-Dub will return after the 10,000 songs in a row conclude. Alpha has placed an ad looking for CHR style personalties to fill the now vacant dayparts.
