Station Sales Kirkman Broadcasting is converting its seven year long LMA of Jabar Communications’ Sports “ESPN 98.9” WWIK McClellanville/Charleston SC to a $1 million purchase. Kirkman owns 4 AMs in the Charleston market and will continue to LMA Gospel 106.3 WJNI from Jabar. Colonial Radio Group is acquiring News/Talk simulcast 93.9 WJXY-FM Conway/Myrtle Beach and 93.7 WXJY Georgetown SC from Cumulus Media’s Joule Broadcasting trust for $240,000. Bold Gold Media Group is acquiring Watermark Communications Classic Hits 1240 WVOS/95.9 WVOS-FM Liberty and AC 98.3 WSUL Monticello in the Catskill Mountains region of New York State for $1.6 million. ESPN Moving To FM In Charleston Displacing Fun

Kirkman Broadcasting is preparing a reset of their Charleston, SC properties on Monday, March 4. Sports “ESPN 910” WTMZ Dorchester Terr.-Bre will move to 98.9 WWIK McClellanville eliminating Classic Hits “98.9 Fun-FM“. The station carries local programming from 3 to 8pm daily and ESPN Radio programming elsewhere. 910 WTMZ will remain Sports with a mix of programming from other sports radio providers. Yahoo! Sports Radio’s Steve Czaben will air on that station in mornings.

WQSC Charleston Flips To Talk

Kirkman Broadcasting Beach/Oldies 1340 WQSC Charleston flipped to News/Talk yesterday. Rocky D, most recently with Cumulus Talk 1250 WTMA is the anchor of the new format, hosting a local show from 3-6pm daily. The remainder of the lineup includes Imus In The Morning from 6-10am, Mike Gallagher from 10am-12pm, America’s Radio News Network from 12pm-1pm and 6-7pm, Laura Ingraham from 1-3pm, and Dennis Miller, Jim Bohannon and Overnight America in the evening. This may not be the only move Kirkman is making with its Charleston stations. In a video report by WCBD-TV, the station logo for WQSC includes 950 WJKB Moncks Corner as being a simulcast with 1340. Getting Fun In Charleston

Update 4/18: At 6:00am today, Kirkman Broadcasting debuted Classic Hits “Fun 98.9” playing “Charleston’s Greatest Hits” replacing Hot AC “Chick-FM“. The new station debuts as the first affiliate of Tom Kent’s 24/7 Fun programming service. The station includes Bill Shannon in mornings, Tom Kent in afternoons and evenings, and Tom’s son Steve in middays. The station will also carry Kent’s specialty weekend programming.
