Alan Furst Named PD Of KMBZ AM/FM

Entercom has announced the hiring of Alan Furst as Program Director of News/Talk 98.1 KMBZ-FM and Conservative Talk “Talk 980” KMBZ Kansas City. Furst most recently programmed Radio-One’s ill-fated “News 92” KROI Houston and has also held programming positions at WIBC Indianapolis, KAJA/KXXM San Antonio, and WLW Cincinnati along with corporate programming positions for Cumulus and Australian Radio Network. He replaces Jack Landreth, who exited after four years in the position at the end of January. KMBZ To Break Simulcast; Split Talk Formats

Entercom News/Talk 980 KMBZ/98.1 KMBZ-FM Kansas City will split into two brands on Monday, January 5, 2015. Current KMBZ evening host Darla Jaye will shift to 5-9 in the morning on “Talk 980AM“, where she will anchor a Conservative Talk lineup including Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, and Sean Hannity. The rest of the 980 lineup will include America Now from 5-8pm, Herman Cain 8-10pm, Laura Ingraham 10-12am, and Coast to Coast AM overnights. With Limbaugh and Jaye leaving the 98.1 lineup, Kansas City’s Morning News expands to 5-10am followed by “Trend KC” with Zac Burns & Jayme Monacelli from 10am-2pm. Update 3/24: Entercom has appplied for the KMBZ-FM call letters for 98.1. The switch to News/Talk on 98.1 will take place Wednesday, March 30 at 2:00pm. Original Report 3/23: Entercom has flipped “Gen X Radio” 99.7 KGEX Kansas City to Bright AC “99.7 The Point” positioned as “Today’s Best Music”. Entercom will also be flipping AC “Soft Rock 98.1” KUDL to a simulcast of sister News/Talk 980 KMBZ. NewsRadio98.com and NewsRadio981.com were recently registered using Entercom’s usual domain registrar.
