People Moves 2/20: Woody Show Adds Birmingham

iHeartMedia’s aggressive roll-out of the Woody Show to mornings at its Alternative stations continues as the show debuted on Monday at “Alt 99.1” W256CD Fultondale/WQEN-HD3. Carl Grapentine is retiring from mornings at Window To The World Communications Classical 98.7 WFMT Chicago after 26 years in two stints with the station. Grapentine joined WFMT in 1986 from 105.1 WQRS Detroit, but exited in 1990 for mornings at 97.1 WNIB Chicago. He returned for mornings in 1996 where he has remained to this day. Grapentine will continue to contribute a daily classical music almanac segment for the morning show and will launch a podcast for the station in 2019. Alt 94.9 Birmingham Moves To 99.1

iHeartMedia has moved the programming of Alternative “Alt 94.9” W235BS Birmingham AL to 99.1 W256CD Fultondale. The move comes following the sale of 94.9 W235BS from Red Mountain Ventures to Courtney French Broadcasting for $385,000 in July. Upon closing of the sale the translator will begin rebroadcasting Urban Oldies “V900” WATV. W256CD is also owned by Red Mountain Ventures and had been operating as Sports “99.1 The Game“. The move gives IHeart a stronger signal for the “Alt” programming as W256CD operates with 130w/349m compared to the 99w/300m signal originating southwest of the city that W235BS possesses. Lyle Reynolds’ Red Mountain Ventures has launched Sports “99.1 The Game” W256CD Fultondale/WDJC-HD3 Birmingham AL. WIAT-TV sportscaster and former WJOX/WZNN host Scott Griffin is hosting mornings billed as “Smashmouth Radio”. The station is currently airing NBC Sports Radio’s Newy Scruggs from 9-11am and Fox Sports Radio’s Rich Eisen from 11am-2pm and Colin Cowherd from 2-5pm. Ann Jones’ Peach Holdings is making a pair of acquisitions as it purchases Great South Wireless’ Classic Hits 97.7 WHPH Jemison, AL for $1.6 million and 99.1 W256CD Fultondale/Birmingham from Shelby Broadcast Associates for $300,000. Mary Guthrie is selling the CP for 96.7 K244EX Las Vegas to Windy City Broadcasting for $25,000. Guthrie will file an application to modify the currently licensed 4.5 watt signal within the next 30 days. Christopher Falletti sells his CP for 98.5 in Battle Mountain, NV to Fred Weinberg and Floyd Brown’s Nevada Radio LLC for $11,100. The Class C2 signal will serve the area west of Elko. Translator Moves Entercom has agreed to purchase the Construction Permit for 105.7 W289CB Milwaukee from Kevin Youngers for $300,000. As part of the sale, Entercom has applied to relocate the translator to the tower of 103.7 WXSS where it will operate with 240 watts at 284 meters rebroadcasting 103.7 WXSS-HD3 (Coverage Map). Apple 107.1 Inc. has made yet another modification to its application for 106.3 W292DV New York as it changes the originating station to Multicultural Broadcasting’s 1660 WWRU Jersey City. Station Moves Georgia State University’s “Album 88.5” WRAS Atlanta is again attempting to move its transmission site from the southeast side of the city to downtown. The proposed tower site is used by a few translators as well as auxiliary sites for WUBL, WWPW, WWWQ, and WNNX. WRAS seeks to operate with 50kW at 318 meters. Clear Channel seeks to move two of its Dallas market signals to their auxiliary antenna permanently. 102.1 KDGE Fort Worth-Dallas and 102.9 KDMX Dallas will remain in the Cedar Hill area with 100kW while increasing their height from 485 to 535 meters above average terrain.
