With the asset swap made this week by Impact Radio Group and Radio Rancho, a pair of formats have moved to new frequencies. Sports “ESPN Boise” has moved from 730 KNFL/96.5 K243BM Boise to 99.1 K256CZ Boise/101.9 KQBL-HD2 Emmett. The swap places the format on a stronger FM signal as it moves from the 99 watt/805m K256CZ to 250w/805m. 730 KNFL is currently running a loop redirecting listeners to the new 99.1 frequency for the format. With 96.5 vacant, Alternative “92.7 The Alternative” K224EP Boise/KQBL-HD2 has moved to that translator as “96.5 The Alternative“. Impact is acquiring 99.1 K256CZ and $35,000 from Radio Rancho for 730 KNFL, 92.7 K224EP, and the Construction Permit for 106.7 K294DC (which will rebroadcast 730).

With the FCC back in business we are able to resume our irregular roundup of applications from around the industry. CBS has applied to change the city of license of its “El Zol 107.9” WLZL Annapolis, MD to College Park. No facility change is connected to the application, but there could be additional ramifications. Despite the station operating in the CBS Washington cluster, Annapolis is located in the Baltimore market and WLZL currently counts towards CBS’ ownership limit in Baltimore. When CBS acquired the 107.9 facility in 2011 it had to relicense its 99.1 from Annapolis to Bowie in the Washington market to fit 107.9 in its market cap. Could this move be a predecessor to CBS adding an additional FM in Baltimore? FM Idaho has requested a facility swap of its 99.1 KINF-F...[Read More]
Update 2:45pm That was quick. “Newsradio 99.1 and AM730” debuted at 12pm Mountain time as KQLZ began simulcasting 730 KINF. Original Report 1:35pm: After just a few weeks on the air, Impact Radio Group is adding an FM simulcast for its new “NewsRadio 730” KINF Boise. Modern Rock “V99.1” KQLZ dropped its format shortly after 10:30 this morning and is now stunting with the same loop of Michael Jackson’s Thriller that led into the debut of 730 KINF on July 21. The station has left a farewell message on its Facebook page. Impact Radio registered IdahoNewsRadio.com on August 3 and applied for all call letter change to KINF-FM for 99.1 earlier today. Thanks to @NWOIdaho for help with this report.
