Cumulus Media has announced that Dayton Kane will move from Green Bay where he programmed Classic Hits 103.1 WOGB and Classic Rock “Big Dog 106.7” WKRU to the adjacent Appleton/Oshkosh market as Operations Manager and Program Director of Alternative “96.9 The Fox” WWWX and Country “99.5 Nash-FM” WPKR. Kane joined Cumulus Green Bay in November 2016 after a 15 year run programming Woodward Communications’ cluster in the market with a year at the helm of Scripps Country 94.5 WKTI Milwaukee in between. Cumulus Media is taking Alternative “96.9 The Fox” WWWX Oshkosh/Appleton WI out of the Current Radio trust. Cumulus placed WWWX in a trust in 2009 following its deal to divest its Appleton/Green Bay stations to Clear Channel and LMA them back. Cumulus would reacquire the stations in 2013. It is now seeking to reassume control of WWWX thanks to the 2013 relicensing of sister 103.1 WOGB from Kaukauna to Reedsville which moved it from the Appleton market to the Green Bay market. WWWX will become Cumulus’ fourth FM in the Appleton market keeping it under the ownership limits. WWWX was the final station still held in trust from Cumulus’ deals in 2009 and 2011.
Woodward Communications CHR “95.9 Kiss-FM” WKSZ De Pere/Green Bay WI is adding a simulcast on 92.9 WKZY Chilton/Appleton on Monday, Februrary 15. WKZY currently simulcasts Woodward’s 80s/90s Hits “KZ 104.3” WKZG Seymour. Along with the simulcast changing, WKSZ will also bring morning hosts Doug Erickson & Mary Love back over from WKZG. Doug & Mary joined WKZG when the station debuted its current format in December 2012. With their move to WKSZ, the current morning show of Precious and Nikki is no more. Precious will move to nights replacing the current voicetracking in the timeslot while Nikki moves to sales for the company.
Midwest Communications has flipped Classic Rock “94.3 The Drive” WYDR Neenah-Minasha/Appleton, WI to Variety Hits “94.3 Jack-FM“. The move returns the Variety Hits format to Appleton and Green Bay for the first time since Woodward flipped “104.3 Chuck-FM” to 80s/90s Classic Hits in November 2012. Midwest operates the Jack brand on 96.3 WCJK Nashville which it inherited from South Central Communications. This is their first launch of the brand in any market.

Woodward Communications has flipped “92.9 Country” WXMM Chilton/Appleton, WI to a simulcast of 80s/90s Hits “KZ 104.3” WKZG Seymour/Green Bay. The move gives WKZG full coverage of the Appleton market as WKZG rimshots the market from the north. Its current format, which focuses on pop hits from 1980-1995, debuted in December 2012. It also simulcasts on 103.5 W278AU to better cover Green Bay. The 92.9 WXMM signal signed-on with the now former Country format in September 2011. It had been the local affiliate for the syndicated Bobby Bones morning show.

Cumulus looks poised to begin phase two of its “Nash” Country brand rollout. Amidst rumors of Premiere Radio Networks “After Midnight” host Blair Garner jumping ship to Cumulus to host a syndicated morning show, Cumulus has slowly begun to reserve social media properties for additional markets. The most obvious is the domain registration for NashFMWisconsin.com in late March. It was joined by a Twitter account and a private Facebook page in the last couple weeks. Geils Band – Freeze Frame, and Real McCoy – Another Night.
