People Moves 8/31: A Rushed Departure From KQBT

Rudy Rush has departed afternoons at iHeartMedia Urban “93.7 The Beat” KQBT Houston to focus on his comedy career for now. Rush previously hosted the syndicated “Afternoon Rush” that took the place of the Doug Banks Show following Banks’ passing in 2016. With his exit, midday host Carmen Contreras has moved to afternoons with Ashlee Young currently listed in the 9am-2pm slot. After 29 years with CHR “Z102.9” KZIA Cedar Rapids, Scott Schulte is exiting as morning host on September 7 to relocate to Connecticut to be with his fiancee. iHeart Commemorates Cedar Rapids Icon With Leo 1360

iHeartMedia has flipped Classic Country 1360 KMJM Cedar Rapids IA to Adult Standards “Leo 1360“. As first reported by Northpine, the station is named after former WMT host Leo Greco. Greco was a bandleader in the 50s and 60s turned host of 600 WMT’s “Variety Time” from the early 70s until his death in 2011. Now hosted by Frank Balvanz, who joined Greco as a co-host in 2007 and then took over the show, will now air on both WMT and KMJM in its Sunday 7am-12pm timeslot.

FCC Decisions The FCC has rejected Kirkwood Community College's Informal Objection for Plus Charities to modify their CP for 88.7 KMMK Coggon IA and has granted the station's application. KMMK was originally granted a CP in March 2015 to operate with 5kw vertical/95m. It applied last December to upgrade from a Class A to C3 with 25kw vertical/94m where it would add coverage of Cedar Rapids utilizing a Raliegh Waiver where KMMK would receive interference from Kirkwood Community College's "Jazz 88.3" KCCK-FM Cedar Rapids and Educational Media Foundation's 89.1 KXGM Hiawatha, but not create any towards those stations. KOSY Cedar Rapids Relaunches As Hot 95.7

iHeartMedia CHR “Y95.7” KOSY-FM Anamosa/Cedar Rapids IA relaunched this morning as “Hot 95.7“. With the new name KOSY-FM has tweaked its on-air lineup. The syndicated Elvis Duran Show remains in mornings, while On Air with Ryan Seacrest is added to the lineup for middays. Program Director Sean Strife moves to afternoons. Prior to joining KOSY-FM in February, Strife served as Seacrest’s producer at flagship 102.7 KIIS-FM Los Angeles. “103.5 Kiss-FM” WKSC-FM Chicago afternoon host Brady takes nights.

KRNA Returns To Classic Rock

Townsquare Media Alternative 94.1 KRNA Iowa City/Cedar Rapids flipped to Classic Rock at 5pm Friday. The move was billed as returning the station to its roots playing the music it played during its heyday. It had launched as an AOR in the 70s before seguing to Active Rock in the early 2000s and Alternative in 2014. The airstaff outside of the syndicated Free Beer & Hot Wings remains in-tact. KRNA registered a 1.9 share in the Spring 2016 Nielsen Audio ratings. KRNA Shifts From Real Rock To Alternative

Townsquare Media Active Rock “Real Rock 94.1” KRNA Cedar Rapids, IA has rebranded as “Iowa’s Alternative” as the playlist begins to move towards Alternative. The airstaff remains the same with the syndicated Free Beer & Hot Wings in mornings, Valerie Hiatt in middays, and Program Director Gregg ‘Shark’ Scharnau in afternoons. The new music mix is a little harder/older leaning than most current based Alternative stations. On Twitter the station describes core artists as including Pearl Jam, Kongos, Nine Inch Nails, Black Keys, Dirty Heads, Soundgarden, Linkin Park, Arctic Monkeys, Incubus, U2, Chevelle, and Alice In Chains.

Clear Channel Launches Cedar Rapids CHR

Clear Channel has flipped 95.7 KOSY-FM Anamosa, IA from News/Talk to CHR “Y95.7“. The new format brings a third CHR to the market where it joins KZIA Inc.’s “Z102.9” KZIA and Townsquare Media’s “i107.1” KRQN. KOSY-FM’s previous format was a partial simulcast with sister News/Talk 600 WMT Cedar Rapids, with both stations running different programming in middays and early evenings.

As its CP for 30kW at 50 meters was set to expire on August 3, Wisconsin Rapids Seventh Day Adventist Church has applied and been granted a modification for 200 watts at 14 meters in order to get 91.9 WRAO Wisconsin Rapids, WI on-air before the permit expires (Coverage Map). WRAO states that the engineering firm hired to build the station’s facility went out of business before completing the project. A high profile translator move in New York is now retreating to Long Island, while non-commercial upgrades could bring new signals to Chicago and Los Angeles. Chicago Public Media has applied to move 91.3 W217BM Elgin, IL to the downtown Chicago where it will operate with 99 watts from the tower of 91.5 WBEZ. It obviously will not be remaining one frequency off of its originating station, but can use that move to establish itself in the new location and then jump to a clearer frequency, perhaps 91.9?. The move should establish a city signal for “Vocalo” which currently airs on WBEZ-HD2 and 89.5 WBEW Valparaiso, IN. WMT-FM Becomes Kiss Country, 95.7 Becomes WMT-FM

Update 1/2: The second part of the shift is now complete. 95.7 KKSY has flipped to News/Talk “95.7 WMT-FM“. Northpine.com reports that it isn’t a direct simulcast as 95.7 will air Glenn Beck from 9am to 12pm, while 600 WMT airs its existing local programming in that timeslot. Original Report 12/27: Clear Channel Hot AC “Mix 96.5” WMT-FM Cedar Rapids, IA has assumed the programming of sister “Kiss Country 95.7” KKSY.
