Just months after flipping Alternative “101.7 The X” KVXX Hamilton City/Chico CA to Conservative Talk “Supertalk 101.7” KSOJ, Huth-Penney Broadcasting has reversed course and flipped the station back to Alternative as “101.7 The Edge” under new KEGE call letters. Then KVXX had dropped Alternative on February 28 and returned to the format on May 25. The station will carry Chico Heat baseball and the NorCal Outdoorsman talk show on Thursdays from 6-7pm.
Huth Broadcasting flipped both of its stations in Chico CA last week. On Tuesday, February 28 Alternative “X101.7” KVXX Hamilton City dropped its format for Conservative Talk as “Super Talk 101.7“. The new format places the station in competition with Deer Creek Broadcasting’s News/Talk 1290 KPAY/98.1 K251AV. Later in the week Variety Hits “100.3 Jack-FM” KBJK Concow flipped to Classic Country “100.3 The Outlaw” KHEX utilizing programming from Westwood One’s “Real Country” network. The Variety Hits format is still available in the market on Results Radio’s “92.7 Bob-FM” KBQB Chico.
Classic Country “87.7 Hank-FM” KEFM-LP Chico/KNNN-LP Redding CA will flip to Alternative “Hella 87.7” on January 1 as the station shifts to new management. The stations, which had been operated by Mapleton Communications via LMA from Venture Technologies Group, will now be operated by Jesse Angelo’s Hella Media Group. The station launched as a webcaster earlier this year. Angelo previously worked for Mapleton Communications’ Redding cluster including hosting middays at AC “104.3 K-Shasta” KSHA. KNNN-LP, which is also over-the-air TV Channel 6, operates as a radio station on it’s 87.7 FM frequency. KNNN-LP until recently aired a country music format called “Hank FM” under the operation of Mapleton Communications, locally know...[Read More]
Translator Moves 97.5 W248AW Franklin, IN has applied to modify its move to Indianapolis with a shift to an adjacent tower with 150 watts at 276 meters rebroadcasting Sports 1260 WNDE Indianapolis (Coverage Map). iHeartMedia is in the process of acquiring the translator from Educational Media Foundation, which was originally being disputed by Emmis on the condition that iHeart intended to rebroadcast an HD subchannel of 94.7 WFBQ on the translator. iHeart responded by stating that was to be a temporary condition to close the sale, but now agrees to keep the translator rebroadcasting WNDE for four years as required by the Mattoon Waiver and Emmis has dropped its Petition For Reconsideration. Hope Christian Church of Marlton wasted little time to make the next step with 105.7 W289AZ Trenton,...[Read More]
Huth Broadcasting closed on its purchase of “Fox Sports Chico” 1340 KEWE Oroville/101.7 KCKS Hamilton City, CA from Deer Creek Broadcasting earlier this week and flipped the duo to Alternative “Radio 101.7“. The flip leaves the Chico market with no Sports formatted station. Chico State University play-by-play will shift completely to former sister News/Talk 1290 KPAY, which had shared the rights.
Sierra Radio has completed its move of 100.3 KBJK Quincy, CA to Concow and the Chico market. Earlier this week the station launched as Variety Hits “100.3 Jack-FM“. KBJK is the second Variety Hits station in the market joining Results Radio’s “92.7 Bob-FM” KBQB. KBJK now operates with 1.65kW at 192 meters.
A few weeks shy of its first anniversary as CHR “101.7 Kiss-FM“, Deer Creek Broadcasting’s KCKS Chico, CA has reverted to its previous Sports format simulcasting sister 1340 KEWE as “Fox Sports 101.7“. The change took place in time for 101.7 to broadcast Sunday’s Super Bowl. KCKS was one of three stations to flip to CHR in early 2011 as the market went from having zero CHR’s to three.
Just last month Chico, CA went from having zero CHR’s to two as 102.1 KCEZ dropped Oldies and 101.7 KCKS dropped Sports as both flipped to forms of Top 40. Now there will be three. Mapleton Communications Modern AC “107.5 The Point” is stunting as “Radio Gaga” with nonstop Lady Gaga and will flip Monday to CHR “107.5 Now-FM“. This tweet indicates that Neal West will host nights on the station. KQPT already has been airing the syndicated Elvis Duran in mornings. Mapleton has also reached out to fill the Oldies void as 96.7 KZAP has dropped its “Bold Talk” programming and is now “Classic Hits 96.7“
Chico, CA has gone from being CHR-less to having two Hit Music stations as Deer Creek Broadcasting and Results Radio both act to fill the niche. Results Radio acted first flipping “Oldies 102.1” KCEZ to “Power 102” on Wednesday. The new station will be based off of sister “Power 94” KEWB in the adjacent Redding market. Results is directing the Oldies audience to its sister Variety Hits “92.7 Bob-FM” KBQB and Classic Rock “Thunder 100.7” KTHU while the previous KCEZ airstaff will move to new positions in the cluster. Deer Creek Broadcasting has followed suit by flipping Sports “ESPN 101.7” KRER to Adult CHR “101.7 Kiss-FM” today. The station changed its calls to KCKS earlier this month. The Sports format wil...[Read More]
