iHeartMedia’s Aloha Stations Trust sells Urban “98.3 The Beat” WBFA Fort Mitchell AL/Columbus GA to RCG Media for $1.1 million. J. Christopher Martin, the sole owner of RCG Media, is the son of PMB Broadcasting (which owns or operates six stations in the Columbus market) co-owner James R. Martin. Both James Martin and partner Lynn Page have put personal guarantees on the loan for WBFA’s purchase but will have no connection to the operation of the station. Boomer And Country Legends Swap Spots In Columbus GA

PMB Broadcasting is swapping frequencies for two of its Columbus GA stations. Classic Hits “Boomer 95.3” WRLD Valley AL and Classic Country “102.5 Kissin’ Country Legends” 1270 WBOJ/102.5 W273CW Columbus exchanged frequency locations on Friday morning. The move places the Classic Country format on the Class C3 rimshot and Classic Hits on the in-town AM/Translator combo. The translator was moved in from Dawson GA via an AM Translator Revitalization Waiver and is operating with 250w/226m. “Kissin’ Country Legends” launches as a brand extension of Country “Kissin’ 99.3” WKCN Fort Benning South and is positioning as “Legends Done Right”.

iHeartMedia has expanded the brand of Country “South 106.1” WSTH-FM Alexander City AL/Columbus GA to a second signal. The new “South 94.7 The Legend” is a rebranding of “Classic Country 1460” WHAL Phenix City-Columbus with the addition of 94.7 W234BX Highland Pines GA. The 220 watts at 144 meter translator covers all of greater Columbus (Coverage Map). The Legend is running iHeart’s Premium Choice Classic Country lineup around the clock.

The vacated 88.5 WCUG Lumpkin has been taken over by Columbus State University as “Cougar Radio 88.5“. The new student-run station will fully-ramp up programming once the fall semester starts as well as adding news and sports programming. Columbus State University went live today with its first radio station, thanks to a local contribution. Just after midnight, 88.5 WCUG-FM Cougar Radio signed on and inaugurated a new era in student broadcasting opportunities for CSU. iHeartMedia Country “South 106.1” WSTH-FM Alexander City, AL has begun airing its programming on 101.7 W269CT Columbus, GA to increase its coverage in the city. The new to air translator operates with 220 watts at 133 meters (Coverage Map). WSTH-FM is one of two Country stations in the Columbus market. Its 2.2 share in the Fall 2014 Nielsen Audio ratings trailed PMB Broadcasting’s “Kissin 99.3” WKCN’s 6.6 share.

PMB Broadcasting will drop the format on Spanish CHR “Unidos 107.7” W299AX Columbus, GA/103.7 WLTC-HD3 at the end of 2014. Co-Owner Jim Martin told the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer, “the community hasn’t really embraced the station. If you put something out there and the community wants it, they kind of adhere to it.
