Station Sales Following the merger of Port Broadcasting and Aruba Capital Partners announced this week, Port is expanding into Bangor ME with the purchase of Pine Tree Broadcasting’s three AMs and one translator for $172,000. Oldies 1230 WGUY Veazie, Soft AC “94.1 The Wave” 1340 WBAN/94.1 W231CH Bangor, and Classic Country “1400 The Country Road” WCYR Veazie began being operated by Port via LMA on December 1. Charles Begin’s Pine Treen Broadcasting acquired the stations in December 2015 from the estate of Daniel Priestly for $90,000. For $2.7 million Big Radio Pro purchases Standards 103.3 KZPO Lindsay/Visalia from the Estate of Linda Ware, the CP for 100.1 KNGS Coalinga from William Zawila, the CP for 106.9 KAAX Avenal from Avenal Educational Services, the CP for 94.7 KYAF Firebaugh from Central Valley Educational Services, and the CP for 102.1 KZPE Ford City/Bakersfield from the Estate of H.L. Charles. The buyer is a Bakersfield based Spanish language programmer and consultant. WROD Becomes The Rock Of Daytona

Volusia Broadcasting has flipped Oldies 1340 WROD/104.7 W284AV Daytona Beach to Classic Rock “The Rock of Daytona“. Tracy Dillon, current morning host at WROD, is being rejoined by former co-host Frank Scott. Scott and Dillon hosted mornings on Rock 95.7 WHOG from 1997 until 2011. Former WHOG middayer Gary ‘The Mad Swede’ Meade takes the same position at WROD, while ‘Just Plain John’ Barrett hosts afternoons.

WKRO Moves Up The Coast

Southern Stone Communications’ Country WKRO-FM Daytona Beach has relaunched as “Coast Country 93.1“. The move comes has the station completes a signal upgrade in Daytona Beach proper with a city-of-license change from Edgewater to Port Orange bringing the station 20 miles north up the coast. It will now operate with 24.5kW at 53 meters. PD Jim “Kingbird” King will now be joined in mornings by OM Gerry McCracken and Michelle McCoy. A pair of talents using only their first names fill the rest of the schedule as Stephanie takes the midday shift and Chris goes into afternoons.

WROD Daytona Beach Adds FM Translator

Volusia Broadcasting’s Oldies 1330 WROD Daytona Beach has added an FM simulcast as 104.7 W284AV Deltona completes its upgrade and move into Daytona. WROD acquired the translator last year from Reach Communications for $100,000 and relocated the translator about 30 miles to WROD’s tower where it is now operating with 120 watts putting a city grade signal over all of Daytona Beach and its neighboring communities. WROD programs a local news block from 7 to 9am and 50s-70s Oldies the rest of the day.

99.5 WLOV Debuts In Daytona Beach

Update 3/23: 99.5 WLOV made its soft launch this week as AC billed as “Daytona’s Continuous Soft Favorites”. The station is currently running jockless and commercial-free. Original Report 3/17: One of the new FM’s granted in last years FCC Auction 91 will join Black Crow Media’s cluster in Daytona Beach, FL. The rights to build 99.5 in Daytona Beach Shores was acquired by Susan Hall for $640,000 in the auction. The CP was granted the call letters WLOV-FM on February 20 when the Construction Permit was granted along with the registration of 995WLOV.com by Black Crow a week later.
