The Cesar Chavez Foundation’s Farmworker Educational Radio Network is continuing its growth in Phoenix with the purchase of Southwest FM Broacasting’s Beautiful Music 102.1 KAHM and 101.7 K269EE Prescott and Southwest Broadcasting’s Talk 1490 KYCA/97.1 K246BI/103.5 K278CN Prescott AZ for $2.5 million through a new Phoenix Radio Broadcasting holding company. Phoenix Radio Broadcasting will pay $1.7 million for KAHM and K269EE and $800,000 for co-owned KYCA/K246BI/K278CN. Midwest Communications flipped AC “Mix 101.9” KRWK Fargo ND to Variety Hits “101.9 Jack-FM” at 12:00 this morning. The move eliminates the only AC station in the Fargo market and positions KRWK between Radio FM Media’s Hot AC “Big 98.7” KLTA and Radio Wahpeton Breckenridge Classic Hits “106.9 The Eagle” KEGK. With the move to the jockless brand, no word just yet on the status of the KRWK airstaff including morning hosts Scotch Anderson, Britta Lee, and JJ, middayer Ryan Kelly and afternoon host Dan Michaels. KZDR is in the process of moving to Breckenridge MN where it will relaunch as “B92.7” KBMW-FM with a yet to be announced format. Days after Midwest Communications brought Classic Country to FM in Fargo with the launch of “104.7 Duke-FM” KMJO, Radio FM Media has dropped the format from “Willie 1660” KQWB West Fargo. KQWB is now running the national Fox Sports Radio feed surprisingly under the name “Fox Sports 1660“. This is the second time the station has utilized a Sports format in recent years. It was “1660 ESPN” from 2007 until 2012, when it flipped to Oldies and then Classic Country.
Midwest Communications has made a pair of format changes in Fargo, ND this afternoon. Active Rock “Rock 102” 101.9 KRWK Fargo is no more as that frequency has become AC “Mix 101.9” assuming the branding of 104.7 KMJO Hope. That in turn allows 104.7 to become Classic Country “104.7 Duke-FM“. Both KRWK and KMJO had picked up their now former formats within days of one another in September 2013 as KRWK flipped from News/Talk and KMJO from Variety Hits.
94.7 KSKK has completed its move to Frazee and is now simulcasting Country “Bob 95” 95.1 KBVB Barnesville, MN/Fargo, ND as 94.5 KDLB. The former AC format and KSKK call letters have moved to 1070 KVKK Verndale replacing its Talk format.
