The Secret Format Changes Of 2016

One thing I’ve noticed over the course of this year, I’ve noticed more and more format changes and station rebrandings happening under the radar. Some we’ve heard about from one source but were never able to verify for weeks or months as they took place with no announcements from the station and a lacking online presence. Once again, how do you expect listeners to find you if you don’t let them know you exist. Here’s a rundown of changes from this year we have not seen reported here or anywhere else: Liberman Broadcasting rebranded Regional Mexican “La Bonita 106.7” KZZA Muenster/Dallas TX as “La Ranchera 106.7” and began simulcasting on what was “ESPN Deportes 1540” KZMP University Park in early September. Radio WEBS flippe...[Read More]

104.9 WOW-FM Gainesville Moves To 100.9

JVC Media has moved Classic Hits “104.9 Wow-FM” WYGC High Springs FL to the 100.9 signal that had been home to Soft AC “Smooth-FM” WXJZ Gainesville. The move gets the Classic Hits format off the rimshot signal of 104.9 and to the stronger in Gainesville 100.9. Despite the poor signal in Gainesville and non-existent signal in the Ocala half of the market, Wow-FM’s 1.1 share in the Fall 2015 Nielsen Audio ratings over-performed WXJZ’s 0.8 share. WXJZ had returned to the “Smooth-FM” brand in September 2015 following a run as Dance CHR “Party-FM“. No word yet on what will come to 104.9 following the transitional period, but it wouldn’t be a shock to see WYGC return to the simulcast of sister “My Country 102.3” WTRS D...[Read More]

FCC Update 8/30: Pittsburgh Translator Move Denied

Last week Educational Media Foundation sought a STA to complete the move of 106.3 W292DH Uniontown, PA into Pittsburgh while it sought out issues with the Federal Aviation Administration. The FAA issued a Notice of Presumed Hazard for W292DH’s 250 watt at 165 meters Construction Permit. The STA sought to begin operations at that facility with just 46 watts. But as the city-of-license was to remain in Uniontown the STA would not reach that city nor could it be used to build out a CP, it was declined by the FCC. W292DH is due to rebroadcast iHeartMedia Sports “970 ESPN” WBGG Pittsburgh via a Mattoon Waiver. Translator Moves
