AM Changes iHeartMedia Sports "Fox Sports 710" KXMR Bismarck ND currently utilizes seven towers split between two sites. It is seeking to consolidate all operations on what is currently its four tower nighttime array, but in doing so will downgrade its daytime power from 50kW to 4kW, while retaining its current 4kW night operation. Entercom Urban “96.3 The Block” W242BX/93.7 WFBC-HD2 Greenville SC has added a second signal to cover the Spartanburg half of the market. 104.5 W283CG Inman SC completed its move from Tryon NC and is now operating with 250w/140m from just outside Spartanburg. The launch gives the station near full coverage of the entire market. “96.3 The Block” debuted in October 2015 and carries the Steve Harvey Morning Show and parts of The Breakfast Club. While it is not publicly appearing yet in Nielsen Audio’s ratings we can see that it has made inroads against SummitMedia’s Rhythmic CHR “Hot 98.1” WHZT, which dropped from a 5.6 share in the Fall 2015 book to 3.9 in the Winter 2016.
Since Salem acquired Classic Hits “103.3 Earth-FM” WOLT Greer, SC many have asked us whether the station will flip to one of Salem’s core Christian formats to flank sister “Conservative Talk 94.5” WGTK-FM. If that is still an eventual plan, Salem is doing a pretty good of masking it. As of April 24, WOLT has changed call letters to WRTH to match the Earth branding. That follows the registrations of EarthFMWRTH.com and WRTHFM.com. WRTH will be one of only four Salem owned stations to not run one of the companies core formats (Christian, Conservative Talk, Business Talk) and its second Classic Hits station along with “107.9 Kool Gold” KKOL-FM Honolulu.
ESPN Radio will return to the Greenville/Spartanburg market on Monday, February 24. The network will be heard on Entercom’s 950 WORD Spartanburg, 1330 WYRD Greenville, and Ted McCall’s 97.1 W246BU Spartanburg. Greenville hadn’t had an ESPN affiliate since Clear Channel Sports 1440 WGVL transferred to the Fox Sports Radio network in 2012, while Spartanburg’s “ESPN 1400” WSPG lost its tower in January when a tree knocked it over. The 97.1 translator had been rebroadcasting WSPG at that time. WORD/WYRD picked up the broadcasts of USC Upstate basketball when WSPG went dark. 950 WORD and 1330 WYRD are currently part of a trimulcast with sister News/Talk “Word 106.3” WYRD-FM Simpsonville, which will retain that programming when “ESPN Upstate&...[Read More]
Women’s World Broadcasting has filed a pair of applications to increase its profile in Atlanta following its recent purchase of 107.1 W296BB Jonesboro, GA from Life Radio Ministries for $15,000. The translator has applied to move into Atlanta proper where it would operate with a directional 250 watts. The translator will cover the southern half of Atlanta while rebroadcasting Cox’ 98.5 WSB-HD3. The second application will increase Women’s World’s Country “South 107” WTSH Aragon. The application to move to a new tower site will put the station’s 60dBu contour directly over the portions of Atlanta that W296BB will not cover. The app will see the station continue to operate at 100kW with a height increase from 158 to 287 meters. Entercom’s 96.3 ...[Read More]
