Durham Radio has closed on its acquisition of “Country 92.9” CKJN-FM Haldimand/Hamilton ON from Vista Radio and has flipped the station to Classic Hits “92.9 The Grand” CHTG-FM. The format change takes the station out of direct format competition with new sister “KX 94.7” CHKX while returning Classic Hits to the market for the first time since Bell Media’s 1150 CKOC flipped to Sports last September. Much of the airstaff used to work at CKOC. Former middayer Peter Jaycock will host mornings, former PD/morning host Ted Yates is in middays, and Rock ‘N’ Ray Michaels in afternoons.
Bell Media has announced that it will flip Classic Hits 1150 CKOC Hamilton, ON to Sports “TSN Radio 1150” later this year. Partnering with the Canadian Football League’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats to become the franchise’s new flagship, CKOC will also air broadcasts of the NBA Toronto Raptors and NHL Toronto Maple Leafs that originate on sister “TSN Radio 1050” CHUM in the adjacent Toronto market. Astral Media Country 820 CHAM Hamilton ON will flip to Comedy “Funny 820” on Tuesday. The flip will take place at 8:20am as the station cedes the Country audience in the market to Durham Radio’s “KX 94.7” CHKX. In the Spring BBM ratings, CHAM registered a 1.5 share to CHKX’s 4.1. That was down from a 2.0 prior to 94.7’s format change in 2011. Astral Media owns the exclusive Canadian rights to the 24/7 Comedy network. Its programming is heard on “Funny 1410” CKSL London and in overnights on News/Talk 1010 CFRB Toronto. The Smooth Jazz format continues online with the existing airstaff at Wave.fm.
