Michelle Coke, a veteran of Urban AC’s “V101.9” WBAV Charlotte, NC and “Star 94.5” WCFB Orlando is Program Director.
Terry Barber Enterprises is continuing to grow a cluster in Montgomery, AL. Barber, the former GM of Blueberry Broadcasting’s cluster in the market, purchased Gospel 800 WMGY in March and is now adding another AM and translator. Barber is paying $210,000 for Classic Hits 1250 WRBZ Wetumpka from J&W LLC. and $100,000 for 96.5 W243CS Montgomery from Patrick Sullivan. Required to be spun-off due to L&L Broadcasting’s pending purchase of 100.1 WSSJ, Apex Broadcasting has agreed to purchase Classic Hits “103.1 The Drive” WGZO Parris Island, SC for $450,000. Apex does not currently own any stations in the Savannah/Hilton Head market, but has a cluster of 1 AM and 4 FM’s in nearby Charleston.
Larry Wilson, the former founder and CRO of Citadel Broadcasting who operates Alpha Broadcasting in Portland, has acquired Triad Broadcasting for $21 Million. Triad operates with different operational names in the markets it serves, such as Go Radio Fargo, JMP Radio in Peoria, and Adventure Radio in Bluefield and Savannah/Hilton Head The company will be operated under the name L&L Radio, standing for “Live & Local”. Partners Broadcast Group has flipped CHR “94.5 The Party” 1490 WVGB/94.5 W233AW Beaufort/Hilton Head, SC to Classic Hits as “The Coast“. Partners acquired the station and translator earlier this year from Vivian Broadcasting for $300,000. The station’s Facebook page describes the new format as “Beach, Soul and Rock-n-Roll”. The move places the station in direct competition with Low Country Radio’s “104.9 The Surf” WLHH. And that’s where this deal gets interesting. The three partners in Partners Broadcasting were also the three owners of WLHH until last week when Joel Garrett applied to acquire the 66 percent he did not own of 1490 and 94.5 from Joe Mule and C.J. Jones for $10.
The Clear Channel/EMF bulk translator move to the IDS Center in Minneapolis has hit a few hitches. The planned moves of 93.3 W227BF Shoreview, 97.7 K249ED Albertville, 99.9 K260BA Coon Rapids, and 102.5 K273BH Fridley have been hit with informal objections to move by a Jeff Sibert. The move of 97.7 is also being objected by United Audio Corp., the owner of 97.5 KNXR Rochester, MN. Northpine.com has more details on the move, including a part of history repeating itself.
