Urban One has appointed Charese Fruge as CHR Format Captain and Program Director of “Radio Now 92.1” KROI Seabrook/Houston TX and “Radio Now 100.9” WNOW-FM Speedway/Indianapolis IN. Fruge most recently served as VP/Programming for CBS Radio Houston until her exit in late 2016. She also held progamming duties for the company in Las Vegas, Sacramento, San Diego, and San Francisco during her tenure which began in 2009. She has also programmed KALC Denver and KYSR Los Angeles. She will be based in Indianapolis and fills the opening created by Buster Satterfield’s departure to WFLZ Tampa in May. In Houston, DJ Riddler will remain in the APD/MD position, a role he also held under Fruge at the now-defunct “Hot 95.7” KKHH Houston.

Afternoon host Bernie Eagan has announced he will retire from afternoons at Emmis AC “B105.7” WYXB Indianapolis on Friday, July 20. Eagan has been with WYXB since soon after its launch in 2002 after spending over two decades at sister 97.1 WENS. Eagan is one of the few totally blind on-air personalities in the country. Eagan told sister News/Talk 93.1 WIBC, that he rarely mentions it on air because “it doesn’t add to the show, it doesn’t take away from the show. If it made a difference, they probably wouldn’t have hired me.” During his time at WENS and WYXB, Eagan has spent time as both morning and afternoon host and served as APD of WENS during the 1990s.

After agreeing in December to purchase Silent 1510 WMEX Boston from Daly XXL Communications for $125,000, the contract by Ed Perry’s Marshfield Broadcasting Company has been filed with the FCC. Not included in the deal are the current call letters as the license to use them from 105.9 WMEX-LP Rochester NH was non-transferrable. Also the contract states that the current tower site owner Duffy Associates, LLC has filed a lawsuit against Daly XXL Communications, Ed Perry, and former WMEX owner Blackstrap Broadcasting.
