Kevin Kollins Joins WSSR Morning Show

Alpha Media AC “Star 96.7” WSSR Joliet IL has promoted weekend host Kevin Kollins to mornings alongside Lisa Jordan. Kollins takes the place of the recently exited Josh Cooper and will continue to host afternoons at sister News/Talk 1340 WJOL. Kollins was a CHR jock in the early/mid 90s at stations like WIFC Wausau, WZEE Madison, and KDWB Minneapolis before moving to the music promotion business in 1997 prior to joining WSSR for weekends in 2009. Station Sales Nedved Media is acquiring Riverfront Broadcasting’s three stations in Mitchell SD for $3.35 million. The local group held by Nancy and Steve Medved will acquire News/Talk 1490 KORN, Country “92.1 Korn Country” KORN-FM, and Hot AC “Q107” 107.3 KQRN Mitchell. The Nedveds will begin operating the cluster via LMA on January 1. Larry & Pamela Nelson are transferring controlling interest in their seven Illinois stations to their children Douglas Nelson and Jennifer Beckman in exchange for control of WSPY TV Inc., the licensee of 96.9 W245CE Morris IL. Digity Acquires NextMedia

Update 10/28: The sale application for the NextMedia stations has been filed with the FCC. Digity will pay $84,972,500 for the 33 stations owned by NextMedia, while an additional $5,527,500 will go to the Mile High Station Trust for WFXF and WZSR. The latter two will be owned by Matrix Broadcasting run by Peter Handy, CEO of media broker Star Media Group and majority owner of Cohan Radio Group, which owns five stations in Sebring, FL. The two stations will have a shared services agreement with Digity in which Digity will supply technical, promotional, back office management, and other services related to the operation of the two stations. Curtis Media Group’s Eastern Airwaves has acquired a pair of translator CP’s in North Carolina. From Community Public Radio, Eastern Airwaves added 97.7 W249CN Fairfield, NC for $125,000. The 250 watt translator will put a city grade signal over Greensboro where it will be used to rebroadcast Curtis’ “Triad Sports” 1320 WCOG. From Bible Broadcasting Network, Eastern Airwaves acquired 94.3 W232CI Fayetteville for $47,500. The 30 watt translator is currently licensed to rebroadcast Bible Broadcasting’s 91.1 WYBH Fayetteville. EMF Broadcasting is applying to bring another translator into Chicago proper. 101.5 W268AY Seward Township, IL has applied to relocate to the top of the Trump International Hotel where it would operate with 250 watts and rebroadcast Clear Channel’s 95.5 WNUA-HD3. In nearby Joliet, 94.3 W232BL looks to double from 5 to 10 watts with a shift to 99.1 due to interference from co-owned “K-Love” WJKL Glendale Heights. Over in Phoenix, EMF is seeking to relocate and upgrade its 96.5 K243BN Laveen from the South Mountain tower farm to the north side of the city. It will upgrade from 11 to 51 watts.
