After going off the air at the end of April, Leah Jones has succeeded in her efforts to save the two stations she worked for in Keokuk IA. Jones has partnered with Michael Greenwald, who serves on the Keokuk City Council, to purchase Country 1310 KOKX Keokuk IA and Classic Hits “Z93” 93.9 WCEZ Carthage IL from Doyle and Carolyn Becker’s Riverfront Broadcasting under the name Keokuk Broadcasting Inc. Purchase price was not disclosed, but the pair of stations resumed operations on Friday, June 1. Jones served as afternoon host at WCEZ and Office Manager for the duo under previous ownership. After closing on its acquisition of 1310 KOKX Keokuk IA and 93.9 WCEZ Carthage IL from Withers Broadcasting, Riverfront Broadcasting has flipped both stations to new formats. As first reported by Northpine.com, 1310 KOKX dropped Soft Oldies for Country, while Soft AC “Easy Rock 93.9” WCEZ gave way to Classic Hits “Z93“. Riverfront had closed on its purchase of the two stations for $100,000 earlier this year while Withers sold Classic Hits 95.5 KOKX-FM and Classic Rock 96.3 KRNQ to Educational Media Foundation.
Educational Media Foundation is acquiring three stations from affiliates of Withers Broadcasting. EMF will pay WYNG, LLC $450,000 for what is now AC 94.9 WYNG Mount Carmel IL/Evansville IN. WYNG will join EMF’s “K-Love” Christian AC network as a satellite of 91.9 KLVR Middletown CA. The K-Love programming is already heard in the Evansville market on 95.3 WKVN Morganfield KY, whose coverage reaches the areas where WYNG does not.
